Kathy--That is so awesome for you!!!! Shopping is definitely not the sheer torture and overly emotional experience it was for me a year ago that is for sure!!!!!

I think it is great that you are able to do all your shopping on sale!! I try to do that too since we just bought the new house and our budget is a little tighter but still just the fact that I can buy off the sale rack--that is a wow in itself too!!!!!

We just got a TJ Maxx up here...I think I may have to go check it out...I've never been in one!!! LOL

Thanks!!!!
Laura

For the 5 years prior to my surgery (at least) I couldn't even shop in stores because nobody, not even Lane Bryant, had my size - so all of my shopping was done via catalog or on line - one particular website called 'Making It Big' had some nicer clothes for big, fluffy gals but they were soooooo expensive. And everything else I owned ended up looking the same. It was so depressing.

I think one of my most favorite things now is wearing 'real' jeans again - zippers, buttons and a fly! No more elastic waist jeans that just pull up. I'm wearing a great black dressy pair today that I got at Marshalls for $12!!

One of my main goals with the surgery (after health, of course) was to be able to go into most any store and buy things off the rack and not have to catalog shop all the time now. Its still a habit I'm trying desparately to break but I'm getting better!

Good luck at TJ Maxx - they're always getting new stuff in but in your size you should no problem at all finding some cute things.

When I was I think about 6 mos out of surgery I had a party to go to for work and was shopping for a dress....and found this unbelievably cute halter top type dress - something I NEVER would have even looked at before hand.  And I ignored it for quite some time...until I finally got the nerve up to wear it - and I actually looked GOOD in it and bought it.

The dress I wore to Norm and Mary's wedding - NEVER would have even thought of it!

Anyway - yes - I wear styles I never would have considered buying before!

And yes, I do have to watch myself on the shopping.  I find myself wanting to shop when ANYTHING is wrong....and I realize that during those times I used to eat, but now I want to shop.  Not a good thing!  But, I recognize it, and control it as needed.  And it's not just shopping for clothes - it's shopping for anything and everything...for the house, for hubby....for whatever

There is a fine line, though...because you DO need clothes that fit etc.

Have fun!

Pam--

Oh the dress you wore to the wedding was HOT!!! I saw the pics!!!

It is so interesting to me because I wonder when I started to see that I could try new styles and new things and not be ashamed of what I look like...it really had to have been in the last few weeks because literally I am running out of clothes that fit..so the need to shop became paramount...lol

But yes...I do find when I am bored or when I am happy or upset...I want to go shop so I know I am have to tread carefully so that I do not go overboard and blow money I do not have....but I still need clothes soooooo it is a balancing act.

This whole journey continues to amaze me everyday...

I hear yah girl!  as to the transfer of addictions within the shopping thing. . .

When I was a Lane Bryant/Avenue, Woman's Department shopper, I would scope out the stuff I liked and wait for it to go on sale, I was always a bargain shopper and still am. . .  the difference between then and now. . .  I actually enjoy shopping and have to remind myself that I can shop in pretty much any store now, as I was so used to shopping only in certain ones, who carried brands I knew worked.

When I had to shop last fall, for a work wardrobe, as I wanted new clothes and not that there is anything wrong with Thrift Store items, as I had shopped there too, but wanted some new things, now that I was a new "thinner" person, I left the stores frustrated and in tears, did not come away with anything, because I was overwhelmed by the stuff that was available to me and I felt that with my new self I did not know what I could now wear, also, remember that I am a bit older than you, so based on suggestions from others, I found new brands and stores to shop at.

One of my favorite purchases was last June, when my guy and I were up in Lancaster for a weekend getaway, we went into a shoe outlet store, as he was looking for shoes, so I went to the clearance rack in the back (shoes were my one addiction in the past, as I could usually find something cute that fit (lol), anyway, I saw these boots, the suede ones that have furry lining and tassels, I had always wanted a pair, but boots that went above my ankle, did not fit my calf, so I said to myself, for the heck of it, I'll try them on, well I was thrilled to find they fit and my guy said, I'll buy them for you as your birthday present, so it was early June and I had my boots!  I wore them every chance I got this past winter and until I changed my avatar this past weekend, they were on in that old picture and everyone used to kid me about those boots. . .

I say shop and enjoy, so long as you are reasonable, I love Ross', TJMaxx, Burlington Coat Factory and Marshall's and the sales at JC Penneys, since I'm a petite, they have one of the best petite's department. . .  oh and then, of course there are the outlets (lol). . .

I am going to share one of my secrets for you ladies out there some of these thrift shops have Victoria Secrets pajamas and stuff I am not talking panties and bras mind you I draw the line at that unless the tags are still on them and they are really comfty.  I just went on line and bought myself a pair of ugg boots the tall ones for 86.00 and I can say a year ago I would not have been able to pull them over my calves. But I love thrift clothes shopping so I am there. Goodwill, Salvation Army I stay away from some consignment shops because I don't feel they are really having any decent deals. I was afraid of buying the ugg tall boots but this year I did.
