OT - Hubby did ok

In the wake of all the major life events others here are going through, this is like a needle in the haystack.

But considering some of you asked....hubby made out just fine at his first "real" dentist appointment.  "Real" because it was the first time any real work was being done.  He was medicated at home per their instructions w/ valium, went and had a full cleaning done which was gonna be difficult due to the stage of decay he was in, and then sat for four front fillings.  The fillings were given w/ nitrous (laughing gas) because he was freaking out over the numbing needle.

Bottom line..he sat in the chair for over 2 hours...his front four top right teeth look AMAZING and he can now SEE the reason behind doing all of this and is thrilled that he will one day have a "normal smile" as he put it.

He'll have at LEAST 4 more visits PLUS the oral surgery appointment so this will of course be ongoing...but at least now he's pleased with the results and also has realized the big scary dentist isn't as big and scary as he thought it was.

Oh Pam, I'm so glad.  It's such a tough phobia, and such a major influence on health to have good dental care.  It's great that you and your dentist are working through this with him in such a supportive way!

Pam, I'm glad to hear that things went well for Brian today and that he's pleased with the results!  I used to be afraid of going to the dentist when I was a little kid---and the dentist was my grandfather!  I don't mind it too much now, although I still get a little apprehensive.

Pam - So glad that this went well! I thought that he had his appt while I was away. Send my best to him and hopefully now that he sees that it wasn't that bad and made a big difference in appearance he'll be OK (it doesn't work for me so I hope it does for him)

*hugs* to you both!

Actually - it DOES help him.  He has very very low self esteem (as you know) and after the appointment when he looked in the mirror he actually said to me and the dentist "You mean I'll have a real smile now?"  And then when we got home he said "I just want to get everything done NOW...not because of the pain or anything....but because I like the way my mouth is going to look"

They called Wednesday - they had a cancellation and want him in today (well...it's 1:30am right now...so technically it's today!) at 11:15, to do more work as opposed to waiting the two weeks they originally had him slated for due to scheduling problems.  So...back today for another 2-3 hour appointment!

And what helps even MORE than knowing his appearance will be better?  Valium and laughing gas.  LOL
