Did anybody else see this? http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/amos/3992461/WLSrs-Why-do- you-do-this-to-yourselves/
I guess the timing of it was right given my initial visit is Friday. Adding more questions to the list.

Thanks for sharing the post---I think he makes some good points...however he also seems to be talking down to those of us who chose RNY and passed on the DS.
As for myself...I looked at the DS but it just did not seem like the right fit for me...I looked at LapBand...again not the right fit for my needs and my concerns. When I went to Barix and heard Dr. P speak about RNY...it just clicked for me.
I need the restricitions that RNY has....this is not a diet even though he says that in his post...it is a lifestyle change. I need to know that I WILL DUMP if I eat crap because I would still be eating crap if I didnt. I dont want or miss sugar...I chose RNY because it was the only option that put me in a position of being PHYSICALLY responsible for every bite I put in my mouth.
RNY is not for everyone and I know that. But this man who posted it seems to think that the DS is the only viable surgical option...and it has been quite successful for many people but that doesn't mean it is the only "good" option. There was and probably still is a war between the RNY people and the DS people on the main board--it is ugly and vicious which is why I rarely go to that board...this guy even with all his "medical background" and "Hard data" seems to be stoking the fires a little on that issue.....
Like I said though he makes some good points, some valid ones even but in the end --A person truly committed to the WLS is going to do their research and find a surgical option and surgeon that fit their needs and their life. As many people here on OH can attest no option is a quick fix but a tool to be used to get healthy.
Whatever a person chooses we all have to remember it is their choice and theirs alone..
As for you--Get that list of questions ready!!!! Do all your research and I know you will do what is right for you!!!! (((Hugs)))
Much luv!!

Thanks you two,
Trust me ..... I'll continue to research.
I think the post got me thinking because I lost quite a bit of weight on the Atkins diet.
Do I want to dump? hehehehe ........ errrr ........ NO! And if my DS research is correct, quite a bit of crap is not absorbed. So the initial thought .......... get DS, "kinda" watch what I eat ......... golden. But ya know, I'm a friggin' carb hound. It's what got me to this point. Knowing I can't have some of those things is not exactly a bad thing. When I'd go back to carbs I'd actually get the shakes. Doughnuts, and my York County staples - Smitties soft pretzels & Mack's ice cream, were the fix I needed. Knowing I could still do that just doesn't seem right.
Yeah I'll confess ........... losing sugar is not gonna be fun. But the simple truth is that where I'm at isn't exactly fun either.
I'll sure feel better after Friday's appt.

I didn't read the link....but based on nicole's post I can figure out what it is about. And she's right...the RNY and VSG is kind of like a rival baseball team/football team war. It gets nasty and I don't understand why. I believe everyone is entitled to their own decision regarding surgery etc and the lifestyle they choose. Band, RNY, VSG...it's all what you make it out to be.
A few things that I felt were an issue with the VSG....one of them being the stuff I could eat. I wanted to make a lifestyle change...not just re route my insides so that I could eat what I wanted and still lose weight. I WANTED to have to work at this a little bit harder and to really realize my addiction with food.
Secondly...the amount of absorption scared the crap outta me. I have to take supplements with the RNY and I understand I do not absorb a whole heck of a lot w/ the RNY but, from my limited understanding, is that you absorb even LESS with the VSG and have to take more supplements. I believe I am playing around, pushing the limits if you will, with nutritional needs just with the RNY let alone something else the absorbs even less.
And in all honesty, my deciding factor was that I loved Barix and Dr. Pupkova and at the time (I'm not sure if this has changed) they didn't do the DS there so it simply wasn't an option to have both the VSG and Dr. P/Barix and I chose them.
Again...everyone has different needs, ideas, feelings, restrictions, and reasons and bottom line is, you choose the surgery that YOU feel best suits YOU. You don't buy a corvette because your neighbor says it's cool when what you were in the market for was an SUV. Just not a good match!
