Anyone who has had her recently... I have a very important question for you.  I was told to lose 5 pounds but with quitting smoking i have gained.  Did anyone have this problem and if so do you know if they will deny my surgery because of it???   I have already been approved through my insurance and have a surgery date September 24th.

Hi!! I had Dr. P and also quit smoking and had to lose 7 lbs....needless to say I actaully gained weight  (about 9 lbs) after quitting and managed to lose 7 of that before surgery.  My surgery was no t cancelled but Dr. P is adamant that you have had no cigarrettes for at least 6 weeks prior to surgery.  I quit Feb. 18th 2008 and have not had a cigarrette since!!!! So I thank Dr. P for that too!!!! She is awesome and I love her!!!
You are in excellent hands!!! If you have any questions please feel free to ask me!!!!   Good luck!!!

when do you go for PAT'S?. How much  did you gain?
She does not like you to gain weight after your consultation. It all depends, she may put you on a liquid diet pre-op, you will find out @ Pat's
Good Luck

Glad you asked the question. I have my first appt. later this week.  I've wanted to quit, but always uaed the weight gain as a reason why I didn't. My doctor made it clear that quitting wasn't a choice.

You have a surgery date of September 24 that is what 7 weeks away....Start now on following a diet of a post -Op. Focus your meals around protein based foods and start to exercise...Yes, she can cancel your surgery if you have a big gain and no loss prior to surgery.
Then like Susan said she can also put you on a 10 day liquid diet prior to surgery to lose the weight....

You can do it and we will be here to support you along the way to keep you motivated!

I think the best thing you could do is call Barix and leave her a message. She may have given you her cell phone number, call her. She may have ideas that will help you.
