Brand new here...surgery at Barix PA on 8/13!!!!!
Good morning PA forum!
I have finally gotten up the nerve to post!
I have been eagerly reading everything on this forum as well as the RNY pages since January of this year after meeting with Dr. Pupkova at the Barix clinic. I embarked on this amazing journey and must say I have developed such profound respect for all of you! You really are a wonderful group of people who have a fantastic network of support. You all have been a big part of my decision to go ahead with my RNY! I have attended 2 PA Saturday support groups so far and will be attending many, many more (although, sadly, I cannot make the August one as I come from way over in York County.) I even met someone at one of the meetings that has given me wonderful tips on dealing with my particular insurance. (Thanks, Lynn!)
Well, to give you the rundown…..I needed to complete a 3 month diet and exercise, and all the other usual stuff: psych eval, cardiac and pulmonary clearance, sleep study, etc for insurance approval. Now I am a Sr. Benefits administrator for a regional bank, so I was well aware of my company’s medical plan (Capital Blue Cross), but I still was afraid of something going wrong with my insurance. Well, after a few anxious weeks I received my approval! Dr. P signed off on my file and this past Wednesday I went for my PATS. Everything went well and I am now awaiting my surgery on August 13th! I saw my PCP yesterday and he is thrilled for me. I am so grateful to him as well as he was wonderful in making sure that the insurance had everything that they needed, that I was well informed about this surgery, and that I was emotionally ready for all the changes that this would bring. If I had to offer any advice to anyone seeking this surgery I would recommend making sure that you have a PCP that is totally “on board" with your decision.
So, my main reason for this post is to officially join you all and to say a huge “Thank you" for all of the wonderful comments, advice, recipes and support that I have received from just reading the posts.
One last thing, as I have left this entire journey in God’s hands, if I could ask, please keep me in your prayers on the 13th!

Welcome, welcome!! There's another York girl posting on here but she's having her surgery out in York - maybe you'll meet someday at a support mtg in York. I'm originally from York - had my surgery at Barix, too, with Dr Boe - Fantastic place and Fabulous doctors!!
Sounds like you are more than ready for your surgery and are going to do great!! Will definitely be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

Congratulations all around!
You've got your date,
You're past your PAT's
You've got Barix,
You've got Dr. Pupkova,
You feel good about your decision and,
You've got all of us.
I believe I've met you at the 1st Saturday meetings. Did I meet you at any of the 3rd Wednesday post-op meetings? Well, if not I'm Dennis and I lead the that group. We'll miss you tomorrow but look forward to seeing you. It may be at Susan's next 2nd Tuesday pre-op meeting, my next post-op or September's 1st Saturday meeting for Everyone.
All the best, you're gonna do great!
