Wonderful news to share
Congratulations on your surgery date - that's awesome and will be here before you know it!!
I'm an old York girl...lived in Red Lion, Dallastown, York and various surrounding areas during my years out there. Still have some family out there but not much. Is your surgery at the York Hospital?? Was born there - had my daughter there - and my gall bladder out there when I was 19. Left York not long after that and never went back except for visits.

Yes, it is. I've been on this board since Gene had his surgery. At the beginning I was asking so many questions and trying to figure out how to best help him get through the beginning stages and EVERYONE was amazing. Considering I had not had the surgery but was asking questions to help him and I was still accepted into this wonderful group of friends. The support I've found here is above and beyond any I've found anywhere else.
Now I've begun my own journey.

I've been working on this for about a year now. Had lots of research and information from Gene's surgery 3 years ago so I really didn't have much researching to do until I ran into complications after my hysterectomy.
After the blood clot which my hematologist told me was caused by no one telling me to stop the birth control pills I was on to control the flooding during my period. From the Heparin therapy I received for the blood clot, I developed Heparin antibodies and have a condition called HIT. When my first surgeon heard that he told me I could not have surgery and that no surgeon would ever touch me for WLS. My hematologist disagreed with him so he sent me for a second hematology opinion. Who also agreed with him and gave me the name of my present surgeon.
It was the support of my hubby and those here on the OH board and at Barix that lit the fire under my tushie to find all the answers rather than believing my first surgeon.
I'm beginning my pre-op testing on Tuesday, Aug 5th. We'll see from there what happens and what date my doc sets for surgery.
It's become a very slow process and I perfer it that way because I want to go into this knowing I'll be in good and safe hands for my surgery.

Ida,
Wow, you've been through it. I wish you lots of luck. I agree with you on the slow process. It's so much better to be safe than sorry. At first, I thought the six-month waiting was so long but, personally, I needed the six months so I would be totally prepared going in with what I had to face and the work needed to do this successfully.
Good luck to you. I'm sure we'll be in touch through OFF. This is such a wonderful group with so many insightful/supportive people.
Happy Friday!
