Tell me... what's your favorite post op food??? Is there something you miss?
Is it maybe something you didn't like pre-op or something you never thought would be your favorite??? Just curious to see how everyone's tastes change? Is there something that you miss?
I was eating dinner last night and looked at my plate, one of the things on it is something I HATED pre-op! Tomatoes! I am craving tomatoes with mozzarella and basil! I've had it with dinner every night this week!
I have 2 things that occasionally I miss - but deal with. The first is soft serve ice cream (specifically dairy queen) the second is snickers bars. I am so glad that I can't eat either of them - but sometimes I hear them calling my name. Thank God I am a super dumper and don't even consider the risk!!
I was just curious to see what everyone has to say - our lives focus on what we SHOULD eat so much - just thought I would see what everyone LOVES to eat! I still love food - just in smaller, healthier quantities! And well if there is something you miss maybe we can make it WLS friendly!

What do I miss.................when we go to birthday parties and everyone is eating the birthday cake, and I see other wls people I know eating it................I won't try it, don't want to find out I can.....but it does hurt to see them eating it, and to top it off.....weigh less than me............ugh............I miss coconut shrimp at Outback......they are fried and I am afraid of the dipping sauce and the coconut................................when Paul and I would go there he would always order the pork chops and I'd take his bone with all the meat he left.....and I would order the shrimp......now I order the shrimp on the barbie, but do miss the others...................I do miss things, but the thing I do not miss is the weight that I lost..................................................Lois
Liz,
Down by Barix there is a place that sells SF soft serve if you come visit us one day ...Before surgery I hated yogurt and why I don't LOVE it I do enjoy it on occassion these days when the mood hits.
I don't really miss anything because if I really really crave it and I can do it I will or try to alter it so I can have it.

Ok ok ok....thank you sooooo much for that info! I will be looking the next time I am in the area! There is a purple cow or something weird like that by me in Easton that has sf/ff soft serve. It's good, but its not GREAT. It hit the spot one afternoon walking around town but I will also admit (and very rarely do I notice a difference in sf vs full sugar stuff) that I did tell Brian "Eh, it's in a cone and is cold and frozen...but ice cream it is not.
Thanks beth!
Thanks beth!
Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Things I LOVE that I would have never even eaten before surgery:
Greek yogurt
Edamame (I now boil them in their pods, salt them, and sit there eating them right out of the pods while watching a movie at home and even take them to work to help with the salty cravings....)
Things I miss sometimes:
Soft serve vanilla custard w/ rainbow sprinkles.
I had ONE instance of a dark chocolate cake w/ dark chocolate icing "issue" a few months back...which was sooooo weird cause I didn't ever crave that BEFORE surgery...and the sf stuff wasn't doing it for me. As some know, I ended up "caving" and buying a mini cake from wegmans. I had 3 bites which satisfied it totally - it wasn't emotional eating I might add - it was more of a "primal" "physical" "need" and I use quotes because it's the only way I can describe it. I will follow that with I was totally satisfied w/ the three bites...and then took 2 more because I'm an addict and can't stop. And then I dumped for about 2 hours afterwards. Haven't wanted it since.
All in all...MOST of the time what I really want are things like salads with protein and I have noticed if I stop taking my supplements and/or don't eat red meat a few times a week, I REALLY want red meat - but not a greasy fast food hamburger like the "old" days...I'd much prefer a nice lean steak or a burger I make. Again - not a huge red meat eater before surgery. I chalk this up to needing the iron/b12 when I start to "crave" these items. Labs have been perfect since surgery, so I guess I'm ok with keeping everything in check!
