Recommended amounts??
Hi All -
I'd like to know what the recommended percentage split for protein/carbs/fat would be a newer post-op. I'm tracking all of my food intake on dailyplate.com and it does tell me my percentages for the day, but I'm not sure if I'm on track or not. It might be in my Barix bible, but it's at home and I've been forgetting to look.
Also, I'm interested in recommended daily calorie intake. I don't normally go over 650. Is this too high?
Any input would be appreciated, as always
Lisa

when I left Barix the nut gave me a card with what my max intake for protein, fat, and sugar content were, was that not provided to you? that's what you should be following. the calorie intake seems VERY low to me. i know we are on a reduced intake but that doesn't seem like enough to keep a body going - it may actually be too little. you can call and speak to a nut at any time at Barix, that might be your best bet so you get the right info and get on the right track. Good Luck!

Barix doesn't normally have you count calories - but 650 sounds about right....
You really should have your protein goals/fats that Barix gave you with you at ALL times, if not memorized.
I'm 5'3" and I was:
70gm of protein a day
I think my fat was no more than 10gm in a serving....and maybe a total of 40 or 50 for the day? I never came near that so I don't remember it.
Carbs they never gave me a number...but would tell me (especially Dr. P) to keep my carbs from natural sources such as fruits, veggies, milk and to watch other forms such as bread, crackers, pretzels etc etc etc. I do remember specifically at one of my post op appointments (6 mos maybe?) that one day I had an egg sandwich for breakfast...cheese and crackers for a snack...and chicken and mashed taters for dinner and the nut said "I see you don't that often, so it's ok, but you should really watch how many carb like dishes you are having in a day"
I know you said you had the sugar card in your wallet which is good...normally I think they teach no more than 2gm of ADDED sugar in a serving (IE anything that has sugar, honey, molasses etc in the first 5 ingredients) Things like dannon lite and fit (made w/ splenda) has 7gm of sugar in it, but those are ok cause they are natural from the fruit and milk.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

I do have my requirements memorized. I know that I am to have at least 68 grams of protein, no more than 11 grams of fat per serving and at least 64 oz. of water.
Perhaps this is just me being a math dummy........
Today, after adding in my food for the day, my dailyplate says that I will have 45% protein, 37 % carbs and 17 % fat.
I was trying to figure out if this was a good split considering my requirements.
Thanks....
I think in the beginning my split was more like 50% protein, 20% carb, 30% fat -- sometimes the protein would go higher and the carbs lower, but I didn't sweat it. Barix usually won't talk calories, but Dr. Pupkova will! At my 6 month appointment she told me I wasn't eating enough (first time a doctor has EVER told me that!!!) and gave me a target to shoot for.
Then at my 9 month appt, I told the NUT that I still have a long way to go and I can't afford to mess around with this, so I needed a calorie range and ratios, etc. I enter everything into my food log every day -- this is what works for me. I know that logging everything doesn't work for everyone, but it helps me.
