im so hungry and dizzy
Megan,
The preop liquid diet is much harder than the post-op liquid diet! Are you on CLEAR liquids? if not, try a protein shake or sugar-free instant breakfast made with skim milk. You can even put it in a blender with some ice to give it a thicker milkshake consistency.
Pushing the protein will help combat the hungries and also counteract the sugar withdrawal symptoms a bit. If sugar is a significant problem, try an unsweetened fruit juice (natural sugar) to help level things out a bit - possibly cut 50/50 with water.
Hope this helps,
Karen

Teresa,
It really is better after surgery for a few reasons... your pouch is swollen and the nerves within your stomach are cut. Until the nerves regenerate (which can take months), you won't feel physical hunger. The swollen pouch is also self-limiting in terms of how much you can take in.
The lack of physical hunger lets you see any "hunger" you experience clearly for what it really is - HEAD hunger ... an instinct to eat brought on by the emotional and mental triggers that have triggered overeating behaviors in the past. That could be anything from seeing something on TV (avoid the commercials like the plague) to boredom, stress, emotions, etc. Those situations can make you feel a physical "pang" - but knowing that it's not physically possible for that pang to be actual hunger can give you time to figure out how to deal with the underlying issue.
For many of us, the issue post-surg is actually figuring out how to eat ENOUGH and remembering to eat given the lack of hunger.
Hope these insights help!

Unfortunately you just have to get through it. It's not easy. But you can get through it and do it!
And hope and pray your friends and family are forgiving! LOL. I was a miserable "
otch", the first 3-5 days. Then it got a little better.
Just hang in there and be determined. Try to keep yourself as occupied as you can.
