OT: Update

Evening all,

So I had my appointment with Maternal Fetal Medicine today. 12w 6d.  They wanted to do my 1st Trimester screen so the entire appointment was pretty much ultrasound while the doctor talked to me. I got to hear the babies heart beat! Yay! 163BPM, good strongone from what they tell me.

We also did a lot of discussions about where things will go from here. They want me to see Dr. Nash, the new OB GYN Oncologist they have on stagg at Geisinger Danville. They want to do another cone biopsy to try and determine exactly how far the cancer has progressed if it has at all. This will better help them plan when they are going to do the csection and of they are in fact going to still do the hysterectomy. I guess when they do the biopsy they will remove pretty much all of the outer cervix and give me a cerclage. Scary if you ask me, so I am not going to make any decisions about doing it until I speak with Dr. Nash. Right now the appointment is scheduled for the 24th, but the girl said she was going to send his nurse a message to try and get me in much earlier than that.

Silly baby wouldn't get in the exact position they wanted it to to be able to measure it for the screen. So I am going back in 3 weeks on the 18th to have another ultrasound done for a quad screen. Then 3 weeks later on September 8th for my gender screen ultrasound. It was moving and worming and squirming for the entire thing!!! I have a mover! Dr. did not put me on bed rest per se but his orders do say out of bed PRN. I think to cover the days that I don't feel I can make the hour trek to work. Ohhh and all appointments for MFM are going to be at Moses Taylor from here out so no more long drives to Danville! YAY

So bottom line...so far so good..I think I may actually start looking at baby stuff now. I had been putting it off until i could hear the heartbeat.

My ultrasound photos are on my myspace. If you want to check out em, just send me an add request and I will add you as a friend. www.myspace.com/laura1369

Sounds as good as it can right now, and I'm glad you were able to hear the heartbeat - how EXCITING!!!!!

I only have one nursey thing to ask....the out of bed prn...does the doc know you are still working?  And driving an hour to work?  prn means "as needed" and that to me means you are allowed out of bed only as needed...like to pee and shower and get stuff to eat.  Of course, if it's ok w/ the doc and they know you are still working, then yes, I agree, that it's probably just to CYA for work call outs etc, and take it for all it's worth and for all you and the baby can handle!

Continued good luck and prayers to you and baby!

Yep doc knows I am still working. Says right now he feels I am okay to do it as long as I take it easy and don't do too much. He specifically said so if you don't feel up to driving an hour to work... DON'T do it. He does like the fact that I am in quite a unique position being full time military. I don't have to deal with FMLA or leave or anything like that. I still get full pay and benefits no matter how much time I have to miss. As long as the major portions of my job are done my bosses will be okay.

Keep us posted. I'd be lying if I claimed to understand everything that was going on, but the gist of things sounds very positive, so lump me in with the excited well-wishers!

(you thought I was going to say something ****ty and sarcastic, didn't you?) :)

Congrats on hearing the heartbeat! I know from personal experience what a sigh of relief that is. Best of Luck with Dr. Nash. Know that you will be in great hands and whatever is best for you and baby, they will do!

Have fun baby shopping. It's so much fun!
