Don't stock up too much because your taste buds will change... but a great staple would be an unflavored protein powder... that way if your taste buds change it won't matter...

I used it with carnation instant breakfast mix (at one point there was a sugar free mix pack of strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate)... orange juice and vanilla yogurt with ice (think dreamcicle)... so you can do a lot with it... I got mine at the local GNC store... it was i think 9.99 for the container...

Some sites that sell lots of protein powder sometimes have a sample pack that you can order... so that might be a good way to see what you will like down the road...

a great staple to have on hand for right after surger is peppermint tea... I hate tea and I hate anything mint... but I drank this by the bucket full with lots of splenda to make me fart and not feel like a massive gas ball lol...

I am sure some others have some great ideas... but I lived on yogurt, pudding, and fudge pops for a while besides the protein shakes...

Good luck!

yogurt, ice pops, fudge cicles, beef broth, chicken broth, pudding mix (get a few cook puddings just incase the lactose bothers you - you can only make cook pudding with soy milk), Lactaid will make instant pudding too.

I'm with Shannon on the peppermint tea (and I know how much she hates both! lol) it does help!

maybe get some sample packs of protein to see what you like post op - this WILL change drastically from what you like now!

Best of luck!

Hi Megan -
My tastes changed so drastically after surgery.  Nothing tasted good to me.  None of the protein shakes that I tried pre-op tasted good with the exception of carnation instant breakfast.  Also, drink your protein drinks from a cup with a lid (travel coffee cup works for me).  The smell was the worst thing for me and the cup with a lid worked really well.

Dannon light & fit yogurts are a good choice and you can add extra protein powder to give it a boost.

So far I have  not had the problem of changing tastes...here is what I'd recommend:

Peppermint tea - love it love it love it and my surgeon says it's healing
Broth (although this is the one thing that doesn't agree with me post surgery)
SF popsicles
SF pudding mix
SF flavored water for a change of pace
Cream of chicken soup
Skim milk
SF Carnation Instant Breakfast
Protein powders - I got unflavored, chocolate, and vanilla. This will last me a long time but covers all the bases.
Crystal light in various flavors
SF jello
