good morning everyone!!!!

i am a little concerned about  not losing weight, ill be 5 weeks out  on tues. the scale has not moved for the last 3 weeks. i am eating so  little an egg in the morning, fish for lunch and maybe a string cheese for dinner, drinking lots of water. walking to get exercise. ive lost inches since operation but the stupid scale wont budge. i have lost 10 lbs  after   surgory but nothing is happening. is this normal? i know i should not weigh myself but its kinda hard not to. any suggestions? before operation i went on south beach and lost about 15 lbs and with the operation about 10 lbs.  when will  i start losing pounds.?"  thanks for listening.

morning Abby... it's that time for the 1st stall.  Your body is confused right now and thinks that it is starving.  The same thing happened to me around the same time.  You will get past this.  Just keep doing what you are doing... although, I wonder if you are getting ENOUGH to eat.  A piece of sting cheese for dinner just doesn't sound like enough, but if you are full, then it is.

I think it's just that you are at that point for the 1st stall.  When do you go back to Dr. S?

Hi Abby -
I agree with Lisa.  Are you getting enough to eat?  On a normal day, I have 3 "meals" and 3 snacks.  What does you NUT suggest?

Hey Abby:

As the ladies have mentioned, I am wondering if you're eating enough. As you said you're eating so little... might be that your body is shutting down because it thinks you're starving so it is holding on to everything.

I would double check with the doc to make sure you're getting enough nutrition.

What is your protein goal and are you meeting it? I don't think you are getting enough to eat.

If you are having that for your meals what are your snacks? what is your protein goal and what are you eating a day? What about fluids? Are you getting at least 64 ounces?

The weight is about to start just falling off. About 6 weeks out I would guess...

Hang in there!

I'm gonna agree with everyone else - are yous supplementing w/ shakes or something as snacks?  Because if that is all you are eating except for fluids such as water crystal lite etc you are getting no where NEAR your probably protein goals, nor nutrients.  And your body needs that in order to lose weight.

Not to mention anywhere between 3 and 6 weeks is a good time for a stall, too, so that could also be part of the problems.

Give us what your goals are and exactly what you are eating (including protein shakes) to give us a better idea of suggestions for you.  Also, the stage of food you are in per your surgeon's guidelines.

I agree with Pam.  You have to get the proper nutrients.  I stalled for almost 3 weeks at 5 weeks out and just lost a few pounds a wekk the last few weeks.

Try not to get discouraged, it is normal.  Make sure you are getting the food you need to burn the fat.

I have my own battle with the scale, so I am 7 weeks out and have lost 43 pounds...
it will come!!

thanks for all the replies. ok when i saw my doc. about 4 weeks ago, he told me i can eat anything that flies or swims.so iam eating fish chicken and eggs. i tried some turkey sausage which was good. had no problems with that. sometimes i have that with an egg in the morning. i have tried some low fat cheeses like string cheese and ricotta.  i see my doc in 2 weeks. he   does not have a nut so  i followed his instructions. he is different than other docs. he does not do protein shakes . he told me 3 small meals no grazing or snacks. i have not have fruit in a month and half, which i want so bad lol.  thank god for lisa hunt, she has been my  sounding board. we have the same  doctor. but i am trying to be pateint  . i quess we all are different in losing the weight. i am also kinda dizzy at times (lol).  im thinking its due to not eating enough. but i appreciate everyones advise and i would be lost  if you were not all here. thanks again. you are all the best!!!!!!!

Abby, you need specifics from your doc or you need to get a nutritionist that knows about gastric bypass.  We have very specific needs and if they are not met you will experience some very nasty vitamin deficiencies.     Hair loss at about mo. 4-7 will be worse than it has to be if you aren't getting enough protein now.  You need to meet your protein goals and you should have a definitive number (probably somewhere in the 65-80grams range) that you need to meet each day.  "If it flies or swims" is not sound nutritional advice.  You should know your fats, carbs, protein and water intakes per day.  Pin your doc down or get a nut.

Abby - I am somewhat familiar with your plan through Lisa. I would make sure that you are getting about 65-75 grams of protein a day as well as at least 64 ounces of water. This seems to be about where everyone is. If you can't get in that much protein through food alone there is . Or try making a smoothie with greek yogurt (17 grams of protein in 7 ounces!), some frozen fruit and milk - that will be about 24 grams of protein in 1 glass. Also, nothing wrong with supplementing with a shake now and then - just not relying on them. I would imagine that at least some of the Drs would agree getting to your protein goal is most important - can't hurt to put a call into him too though!! Mr Dr would definately prefer me to get my protein through food sources but if I can't get there or am feeling sick a shake is always my answer.

The protein is going to allow your body to heal and function properly. Fluids and protein should always come first then veggies and fruits and the "other" stuff later.

Just as an idea my Dr has me eating 3 meals and 3 snacks a day. My protein goal is 76 and my fluid goal is at least 64 ounces of non-carbonated, decaffinated beverages. Early out I relied on a lot of yogurts, puddings, ricotta and dairy to get to my protein goals. I couldn't tolerate eggs until well after a year out and still have problems with them sometimes at 2 1/2 (+) years out - same with chicken breasts.

Hope that this helps and good luck with your check-up in 2 weeks!
