Gateway insurance HELP

My surgery date is set for Aug. 3rd and my doctor just sent my stuff into Gateway medicaid today for approval or disapproval. This doesn't leave much time, so can anyone PLEASE help me??
First of all, should I call Gateway now and try to talk to whoever is making my decision? Will it help or just pee them off?
How long does it take for insurance approval?
Any advice or help at all would be greatly appreciated. I'm a student and my son is disabled, so if I don't get it done before school starts, I will have to wait 6 more months and I've already waited a year!

HELP!!!
IT can't hurt to call the insurance company. I would just call to follow up to make sure that they have everything that they need, tell them your timeline and ask when you should hear something. Then if you don't hear something by that day - call the following day (and every day there after! lol)
