Hello ladies i am asking for some help i am 15 weeks pregnant and my High Risk Dr told me that i am not allowed to gain weight and the foos that i eat are not sufficient, but after surgery i cannot tolerate eggs, certain meats, cottage cheese, some fruits and vegetables.and it is hard for me because just looking at the foods make me gain weight does anyone know a website i might find that will give me like sample menus or at least how to organize a pattern of how much and how often i should eat while pregnant.

                      Thank You
                        God Bless

Hi Lucy - Congrats on the pregnancy! You'll get some great answers here but there is also a pregnancy board on OH.

How about salads, protein shakes or yogurt?

How far out are you? Why doesn't the Dr want you to gain any weight??

My surgeon told me that you don't need any additional calories until the 2nd trimester - then it should be about 300 more calories (around 1500 total), 90 grams of protein and 100 grams of carbs - biggest thing is you don't want your body to go into ketosis while you are pregnant. Now the OB told me that 1500 calories wasn't enough - I needed to get to 2000! I almost fell off the chair and I did laugh at her! lol I was no where near, but unfortunately I lost the baby at 11 weeks, I am just ready to get started trying again.

Here's to wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months!

Oh I am so sorry to hear that! COngrats on getting preggo again though.

I would try the protein shakes and go from there - what's he going to do if you gain a few pounds - NOTHING. If the baby needs it you are gong to put it on!

I'd find a new OB. That's just insane and dangerous.

I would definately look into another OB myself.  It doesn't sound appropriate to not gain any weight and what not.  And a good OB who is aware of your needs after surgery and what not will understand and be able to help you plan a meal plan out as well.

wish you the best of luck.

Oh, and DEFINATELY check out the pregnancy forum here on OH.  Nice ladies over there.  Hubby and I have been trying to conceive (although that is on hiatus at the moment due to other medical problems) and I was on the pregnancy board often at that time.

I have been pregnant 3 times post op. Had 2 beautiful children. NOT gaining any weight is absurd! You NEED to find another OB or Maternal/Fetal Medicine doc. I gain 16 pounds with first pregnancy. 8 with second, but delivered and lost him at 20 weeks. I just had a baby in April and I gained 18 pounds.

You will have to find a way to get some protein and other things in your diet. Try some new things again. Sometimes during pregnancy, you can tolerate foods you normally wouldn't. Definately take your vitamins religously.

You have to gain weight. You are growing a child in you. And the mere fact he said no weight gain, concerns me and should concern you. If you live in an area where having a different High Risk OB isn't an option, PLEASE ask them to contact your surgeon or do some research so they give you accurate and healthy info for you and your little one.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

My High risk OB said the same to me... if you aren't at your goal weight/ideal weight none of the OBs in my practice want you to gain weight... the risks for the extra pounds just aren't worth it... so stick with your doctor!  Mine are with MainLine Health... not sure who yours are with... but I have seen it as a very common practice now... 2 of my skinny friends are pregnant and they were told they could only gain 15 because with their 1st pregnancies they each gained over 60 pounds and were borderline for high blood pressure and GD... and they are maybe 125 when they are wet lol...

I have the same orders not to gain any weight... I had gained 15 but I am back down to bouncing between 5 and 10 pounds... and I swear it is all in my boobs... just had to get a 40G cup at Lane Braynt today... if they had an H cup I would of gotten it lol... but I was also told to eat 2000 calories a day... most days I hit it... others I am close... I also had to up my fat x3 what I was eating and the same with carbs... if you like PM me and I will give you my home and work email addresses... I am also on facebook just search for Shannon Jarrard Owens and that be me...

But eating wise I have 3 main meals and 3 snacks... so it looks like this as an example

Breakfast: turkey sausage, toast with butter and cheese or a slice of french toast with 2 turkey sausages and OJ, or some days it is just a hot dog with a slice of cheese and toast lol

Snack 1- cheese stick

Lunch- shortie hoagie with carrot sticks from Wawa or nukeable lunch (meat and veggies), soup and half a sandwich etc... of if i'm really bad half a hamburger from fast food lol...

Snack 2- SF cookie bar from Tasty Cakes or Yogurt or carrots

Dinner: chicken, steak, shrimp- some kind of meat with either pasta, potatoes, aka some kind of bad carb lol and then some veggies... or I do a meat with a roasted sweet potato with butter on top...

Snack 3- SF ice cream, or SF cheesecake, etc... this depends on if i need fat, protein, or carbs to hit totals...

I also drink now about 80 oz of fluids a day... take 2 extra b12 tablets, 1 prenatal vit, 1 adult chewable vit, chewable calcuim, and a chewable fiber tablet

I eat a lot of hot dogs to help me poop lol... and have had a horrible time with fruits and veggies with this pregnancy... they make my stomach hurt something horrible and then the rest of the insides soon follow suit... my safe veggies are carrots sticks, sweet potatoes, and white potatoes... everything else i**** or miss...

But hang in there... i have a high calorie protein recipe at home that I can email you... plus i need to email that to someone else as well... so maybe I will repost it... but don't worry about what the doc says... it will be fine... once my high risk doc saw that I basically gained all the weight in my boobs he backed off some lol... so now I am told not to gain any more than the 5/10 I seem to bounce around with... but don't freak out.. it will all workout!

Wow, I continue to be shocked by this post. I was obese when I got pregnant with my daughter (220lbs) and developed GD at about 15 weeks. I was on a strict diet to control the GD. I was also high risk do to a later term loss and I had a histroy of HBP. I was told that I had to watch my weight and make sure I don't go crazy, but I was not told to not gain weight. I was also told that because I was heavy it was more likely that I wouldn't gain a lot (I ended up only gaining 5lbs)

I think what you put in your system is more important then focusing on not gaining weight. And if that means you gain 5, 10, 15lbs then so be it. For an OB to tell a woman to NOT GAIN WEIGHT could seriously lead to health dangers for the baby and the mother.

Have these Drs given you any medical reason why gaining 5-10lbs would be an issue for you or the baby?

I think that they tell you to try not to gain any weight to keep you in check, then expect that you'll gain 5-10 pounds. My Dr said less then10 pounds. My surgeon said 10-20 pounds and the normal OB said 25-35 pounds.

I don't think that most of the OBs know too much about WLS so I talked to all 3 and took an average! lol Mine mostly said to follow the eating program from my WLS Dr BRader told me about 1500 calories - OB wanted me at 2000 calories - I was compromising here too. All of them agreed that I had to be around 90 grams of protein and 100 grams of carbs a day.

I have found that the OBs vary SO much from practice to practice on everything! Shannon had several OK meds she could take that were not on my list. ultrasounds are done at totally different times etc.

I say do what you feel comfortable with - it is your body, trust your instincts!
