am i wrong?

So tonight my family is getting together to celebrate my bday.
My mom kindly asked what I would like to have for dinner and I told her I felt like just having meatballs and sauce (she cooks us each our choice of dinner for our bdays ).    I figured everyone  else could have pasta with it, but I'll just have meatballs and be fine with that.

For dessert I suggested having the pie (with the jello and yogurt, etc- from the recipe you guys posted on here).   I figured that would be a tasty thing that everyone (including myself) can have and enjoy.    I bought the ingredients, etc and have it ready to go.

So I just learn that my mom is baking a chocolate cake - my favorite from pre surgery days - with cream cheese icing.    And certainly something I cannot eat now, and probably will not for a long time.

I'm not sure if I am over reacting, but I am really annoyed that she made the cake.  She knows I can't eat it and said "oh i figured the kids would like it".
I just kind of thought that they would celebrate with me by having the pie.    Sound stupid?
I don't know why this upset me so much, but it has.
I just don't understand why they couldn't just have the same dessert for my bday as me.

Maybe its the whole birthday thing- usually was filled with lasagna and ice cream cake and not having those "old friends" in my life anymore....... ??

I was fine with them having pasta (they have to eat something), but the cake kinda put me over the edge....  I feel like its kind of unsupportive of me right now...

HUGS,

I would have done/expectedt he same the same thing...No advice on how to deal with 'momma'.

It is unsupportive, but in a momma sort of way, she's trying to make everyone happy.   Maybe you could reinforce how tempting those desserts are for you at this phase?

Have the wonderful WLS pie that you planned and F*** everyone else and the silly cake.  EAsier said than done for some ( I know I'd have trouble with it)  but we are stronger than we think!

Hang in there and remember... you can pick you friends, but not your relatives.

Thanks-  I say F*** the cake, too!

My parents just DON'T seem to get it.   I know that what needs to happen is I need to get myself to the point where this kind of thing rolls off my back and doesn't bring me down.

its not worth it :(

I would be upset too! My family knows when they are coming to my house or I am bringing a dessert it is SF and NO ONE cares or knows!

You enjoy that pie and your birthday dinner! *hugs*

Liz

PS - food is much more emotional for us early out - I remember crying over chocolate cake for my b-day too!

Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, since my dad has been sick there was no family birthday event this year.  But, when we DID do family stuff, it was always going out to eat, so I would have been able to get what I wanted.   Dad sent money instead.. works for me!! Then, I can buy clothes!!!

Sorry to hear that the family is shoving chocolate cake in your face.  Yes, I said it and that's how I feel!

Lucky that Liz's cooking class was right after my birthday and I got both SF brownies AND Peanut Butter Pie!!! Thanks Liz!!

Just pretend that that the cake is REALLY dry and gross and try not to let it bother you.

I sure do!

Peanut Butter Pie

Crust:
1 1/2 cup sugar-free cookie crumbs ( I like chocolate cookie crumbs – oreos etc)

2 tablespoons butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In microwave-safe bowl melt butter. Add to crumbs and mix until well combined. Pat into a 9-inch pie plate. Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden. Cool completely.

Filling:
One 8-ounce pkg. reduced-fat cream cheese
1 cup creamy peanut butter
3/4 cup Splenda Granular (I used less)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
One 12-ounce container (3 cups) frozen whipped topping, thawed (I use cool whip free)
Chopped peanuts, cookie crumbs, or a drizzle of melted chocolate

Stir together cream cheese, peanut butter, Splenda, and vanilla until well mixed. Fold in thawed whipped topping. Pour into prepared pie crust and carefully smooth to edges. Sprinkle chopped peanuts or cookie crumbs on top or drizzle with melted chocolate for garnish. Cover tightly and chill overnight

OOOH OOOH I have it!!

Liz's Best Brownies Ever (creative I know)

6 T smart balance Margarine ( I would assume you can use another vegetable oil based spread but this is my favorite)
3 ounces sugar free chocolate chips
3 ounces unsweetened (bakers) chocolate
1/2 cup diabetisweet sugar
1/2 cup diabetisweet brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

In a small saucepan (I use a non-stick frying pan for easy clean-up) melt margarine and chocolates. Meanwhile in a bowl combine remaining ingredients. Pour chocolate over and mix thoroughly. DO NOT OVERMIX! You just want it combined.'

Line an 8" square baking pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil and spray lightly with cooking spray. Pour mix into pan. Top with nuts if desired. I used Pecans and they toasted up really nicely and were super yummy! Bake for 25 minutes. Remove pan from oven and cool on a wire rack (IN PAN) until completely cool, put in the refrigerator for several hours. Remove brownies from pan by inverting onto a cutting board. Cut into 2" squares. You can also make these in mini muffin cups - bake for 12-15 minutes.

Now as a true indulgence I would enjoy these with a small scoop of sugar free ice cream.
