5 days until the 5DAY POUCH TEST
Thus far we have the following OHers jumping on the bandwagon:
Me
TracyB
Lou - Boogaloo
Trish
JoJoBear
Tell5
In preparation to purge our systems I think a confessional is in order. If you are already on the list or thinking of adding your name to the list, post WHY you think you need to do the 5 day pouch test and what you hope to accomplish by doing so.
For me I can put it in one word CARBS! I eat stuff I thought for sure I would never be able to eat again. I am as addicted today to carbs as I was the day before I had surgery. I eat croissants, pretzels, bagles, bread and pasta daily. (not all of them of course but some form) The only carb I can not tolerate is rice.
I have also begun to "dabble" in sugar. I am back to the old habit of visiting the vending machine at 3:30pm daily. Swedish fish, peanut M&Ms, Goldberg Peanut Chews etc. Initially I would buy a bag of candy, take a small handful and then give the rest away to co-workers. Now I find that I can eat an entire bag of peanut M&Ms so long as I pace myself (thus avoiding dumping)
I am a total addict and need detox ASAP!
OK so what's your deal?

Okay, so I hear that confession is good for the soul, so here goes...
Day by day, I am pretty good at sticking to my eating plan, but the minute I am out of my element (parties, picnics, etc...) I have begun to revert to my old habits. Like Melanie, I have begun to "dabble" in sugar also. I was really hoping that it would make me sick or dump but it doesn't. Like before, I have a cast-iron stomach (it's just smaller). I don't even have to pace myself to eat an entire bag of peanut m&m's to avoid dumping - I am embarrassed that I can admit that.
I haven't gained any weight YET, but I went to a party this weekend and met three different people who had GB surgery 5 years ago and all of them have gained all of thier weight back!!! Scary, huh?
*big sigh* I feel better now having said all that to another person - THANKS
Looking forward to Monday Lou

Mel........I am right there with ya!
I have no problems with breads, pastas or rice. And I KNOW what kinds of sugars DON'T make me sick and how much. It's sad.
I will be 5 years out in September. I am happy with my results but am finding it hard to get those last few+ pounds off after having my baby.
I know my habits aren't the best. I am doing better but not good enough. I am hoping doing the pouch test will help "retrain" me a little.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
OK, for me is being home healing from this hip replacement. I am eating just out of bordom. Also, my troubled 19 year old is back in the house and she is a mess but doesn't want to do anything about it and the stress has me eating. Old habits die hard. For me, it's sugar...well, sugar free. I'm eating more sugar free desserts than I should. I just want to get that overwhelming craving out of my system. I don't do much carbs so that is not an issue. I just hope I can go back to the way I used to eat when i was losing. I was really strict and then I got way under my goal and was scared so started making tons of high calorie sugar free desserts but would eat them a few times a day. I would like to have a "treat" once a week so that is my goal. I just don't want to lose weight on this but if that happens, I'm sure I can deal with it...lol.
The 5 day pouch test is supposed to break you of bad habits (carbs and sugar) and "reboot" your pouch.
I'm 11 months out and finding that I can pretty much eat anything I want with very infrequent side effects. I also think I can eat more than I would like to. It's been creeping up on me for the past 2 months so I need to nip it in the bud and refocus my dedication to being healthy and taking care of my pouch.
You can read more about it at www.5daypouchtest.com

Frist of all you look great. Why do people need to go on a 5 day pouch test.We are all addicts a detox is not the answeer. We are like smokers once we have that frist taste of sugar it is hard to put down.
I do feel for you,the best way is the way you are doing now by putting yourself out there and looking for help.
If you have time attend some meeting because you will find others just like you who I beleive can give you the support that you need.
An lastly which is the hardest find something besides sugar that will help you out.
I wish you the best.
