im so hungry
One of the first things I had to learn a long time ago is to be able to distinguish between head hunger and physical hunger. Head hunger results from emotional triggers, or habit for me. A TV commercial, or a particular time of day, or smell can trigger that. Physical hunger usually results from a drop in blood sugar because it has been four hours or so since I last ate something.
Then, there is PMS, which used to cause me to want to eat all the time. Have not had that in ages, as I am perimenopausal.
hang in there. When I was newly post op, I had no hunger.

Trish

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

You are still pre op and probably going through a LOT of emotions right about now. I'm willing to bet a lot of these "hunger" issues are really emotional issues which you are consoling with food. Head hunger can actually FEEL like "real" hunger...until you really get to understand them.
Hang in there - and stick to whatever pre surgery plan you are supposed to. You need to make sure you are in tip top health for surgery, and make sure your liver isn't taking up to much room in your abdomen which would have the surgeon need to do open vs lap or have a slightly longer healing time.
Hang in there!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Good advice from Pam and Trish (as usual)... the other thing that I want to add is that it's really important for those of us who are/used to be morbidly obese to get used to not feeding that desire to eat everytime it arises. Like Trish said, more often than not, it's head hunger and to be successful in this journey really requires the ability to learn to fight it off and do other things. Believe me, having surgery won't make your bad eating habits, reliance on food for comfort, love for chocolate, etc... go away. That will be up to you and it's not easy - it's a lifetime journey. Some things I do (or don't do) since my surgery three years ago:
- don't sit and watch television - too many food commercials - too much munching - too boring
- get up and move - take a walk, put in an exercise tape, go to the gym...
- drink some zero calorie flavored kind of drink ( I like black cherry flavored water)
- change your scenery - move to another room, sit outside for a while, whatever
- pray, meditate, call a friend, get online and come to OH PA Forum!
Hope that helps!

For me it was "hunger phobia." I was so fearful of being hungry, my head was telling me I was hungry ALL the time. Maybe that's what you are feeling. A little bit of hunger from meal to meal is not a bad thing. In fact, hunger is a normal signal to your body that you need to re fuel. The problem with those of us who are morbidly obese is that we never experience that hunger cause we are always full. I am still working hard on distinquishing head hunger from real hunger. Try to embrace your hunger. It means your body is working properly. Now, that being said, don't starve yoursel. The mind/body connection with obesity is complicated thing. Keep telling yourself that you are not going to starve to death
At the end my eating was way out of control. I never tallied it up on a regualr basis but I think ti'ss afe to say I was eating 5000-8000 calories a day easily. for me it was total stress. Your date is coming up and my guess is your stessing.
I put myself on a self imposed 10 day liquid diet pre-op to start the process and shrink my liver (which is important)
Good luck.
