OT - good "beach" book

OK so in a few weeks I am headed to the shore for a few days at the beach - YAY! I want to bring a good book with me - any suggestions? I want a fairly easy read as I'll be there with kids who will need some of my attention. I like historical fiction - anything with a good story! Not much of a murder/mystery person.

Thanks!

I LOVED this book I just read.  it's very easy reading but it's not historial at all.

It's called, " The disreputable history of Frankie Landau-Banks"

It was so cute I couldn't put it down.  The only problem is, it goes fast so I hope you won't be there too long or you'll need to bring another one. LOL

The last 5 I read. All easy reads, in fact most I read out a Beltzville:

The Good Shepherd by Jo Coudert
How an amazing dog brought a mother back from the brink of despair after losing her Son to cancer.

How Star-bucks Saved My life by Michael Gates Gill
A big bucks ad exec loses his job and winds up working at Star-bucks at the counter and how he discovered himself. Easy read, short book.

Why I Jumped by Tina Zahn
The story of a girl that tried to commit suicided and failed. Self discovery.

Escape by Carolyn Jessop
Escaped from a polygamist sect.

Rescuing Sprite by Mark Levin
How rescuing a dog changed his life.

A Good Dog by Jon Katz
How after getting involved with dogs Jon changed priorities and his life. Lot`s of local references like Carolyn Wilki from Raspberry Ridge Sheep farm near Bangor where Jon did a lot of dog training and herding.

So what beach did you decide on?

The Mermaid Chair
Secret Life of Bees

Any books by Jennifer Weiner (In her shoes, Little Earthquakes)

I am a chick-lit expert and I have 100's of books!

oh i LOVE the secret life of bees... and the mermaid chair!  Sue Monk Kidd is wonderful!

Liz - if you like historical fiction and want something light and really fun (and engaging), have you read Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series?  Don't be put off by their shelving in the Romance section (they really transcend that classification!)... They're really addictive!  I believe the proper order is:  Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, Drums of Autumn, Fiery Cross, Breath of Snow and Ashes, and (very new) An Echo in the Bone.

Not historical fiction but - Jennifer Weiner and Jodi Picoult are two of my favorite authors.

You can't measure your achievements with someone else's yardstick!

I'm a freak and read "Jaws" everytime I'm at the beach.

I like LuAnne Rice not the vampire junk and Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel so I plop my butt down on the sand and turn the radio on comfort sound level and thats it for me oh and sunscreen.  Have a wonderful time oh and skip James Patterson just my opinion I think he stinks.

Have you read Water for Elephants?  I've heard it's wonderful and want to read it some day.  And I think it falls into your category of historical fiction.
