Honestly, I didnt start haveing normal and more frequent bowl movements until I started eating a regular diet around my 4 month mark...No I go everyday or at least 3 times a week.  Depends on what I have been eating.  I dont know why but that's just the way it happened for me.

Ill tell you though, I drink a 16 oz cup of decaf every morning and I swear that is what is keeping me regular.

This isn't TMI. We discuss poop alot on here. It's normal conversation.

You may want to try a stool softener or laxitive. If you are that bound up, it can cause alot of other  issues. I know alot of people like colace. And we recommended that to most our patients in the doc office I work at.

I will tell you that I am not on a normal poop schedule still. And I am almost 5 years out. I take ALOT of iron supplements and eat alot of cheese. So I am just "asking" for my plumping to be stopped up. LOL

But there are other foods you can eat/drink to help and then stool softeners always help. It may take time till you adjust to your eating/bowel movements. I know I do a happy dance everytime I have one!

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I started having regular, formed bowel movements at about two weeks out.

liquids in = liquids out

I would take colace or pericolace if you haven't had a BM in more then 4 days. Early out I was going once every 4-5 days.

Hope that this "passes" quickly!

Having things "stopped up" can make you feel really sick... and can cause other problems as well because you're retaining all those toxins in your body.  And the longer it sits there, the harder it will ultimately be to pass (sorry).

I had a similar problem for a while after surgery and it was very uncomfortable.  I started trying to address it by taking colace, which is just a stool softener (no laxative).  That wasn't enough, so tried peri-colace (the generic of it, actually... which is a stool softener AND stimulant laxative).  That works nicely for me.  I find at this point (about 3 months out) that I'm taking the laxative once or twice a week, when I realize that things haven't been moving for a couple of days and I'm starting to feel it.  It makes a huge difference.

Milk of Magnesia just doesn't do it for me and tends to make me much more crampy.

My doc also said that Dulcolax is fine for gastric bypass patients, but that one seems a lot more crampy than peri-colace, too.

Hope this helps!

I take one or two colace every night, otherwise I am uncomfortable and have a constipated feeling.  I am 5 weeks out and just got "regular" poops.

Pooping is by far one of the best feelings post surgery!!!!!   LOL

Mine are solid, but I wouldn't say normal... especially now that I called Sawyna's office about my bruising and they added more iron.  Patti told me to up the iron to 65 mg twice a day and to add a stool softener so I bought the Target or Rite Aid brand of colace and I'm taking it every other day.  It seems to be helping.
