So new I don't even know where to start...
So I just finally admited to myself that I need help. I don't know where to start & I don't know where to turn. I am going to call my local hospital's Weight Loss Mgt. program (Wellspan/York Hospital). I am 39 years old, mother of 3 (the youngest of which has severe autism). Someone please help me figure out my first steps.
All hand holding appreciated.

WELCOME!
It seems as if you are starting in the right place - seeking medical advice from the experts at Wellspan. Go, take notes, ask questions and come back to this board - some of the smartest, kindest, coolest, most caring people I have ever met are on this board. Thier advice is priceless and they don't judge or criticize.
Good Luck,
Lou

Congrats on starting your WLS journey!
I know that once I started my own journey, it seemed like so many steps and so much time prior to surgery, but in the end its well worth it.
Best of luck and feel free to ask any questions.
My hospital required a sleep study, cardiology consult, medical weight management and more, so I started with those early on.
Also, you may want to call your insurance carrier and see what they require for weight loss surgery. They all differ. My first insurance last year required 6 months of medical wt management by my PCP. My brothers insurance required he attend medically supervised weight management at the surgery center, along with some additional classes.
calling the insurance is a good place to start to see what they require prior to approval.

Hi Angela - I'm an old York girl myself - my whole family born in the York Hospital (including my own daughter) but haven't lived there in years - welcome to the PA Boards.
Like AA admitting to yourself that you have a serious weight condition is the real beginning - at least it was for me. One picture was worth 3 words - gastric bypass surgery. I began researching on line and looking for a place that specialized in weight loss surgery - your options may be a bit more limited in the York County area but again, haven't lived there in a long time so I'm not sure anymore.
I do know Dr Brader at Lancaster Hospital (and Brader babies can fill in the details here) is a highly touted, highly respected WLS surgeon on these boards, and Lancaster isn't that far. I heard him speak at a pilgrimage we had last year and was very impressed with him.
We're all out here and will hold your hands and have your back every step of the way - its a long journey - sometimes frustrating when dealing with insurances, etc., but if one of us hasn't been thru it someone else has and can help you along.
Best of luck to you and let us know how you feel after you attend the program at York Hospital.
