So as most of you know, my dad was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He has been going through chemo/radiation for the past few weeks and is a little more than 1/2 way done. I got an email from my step mom this morning saying that he is so weak and isn't getting any nutrition or drinking what he should be because he just can't get it down. I called her and she said that she contacted the dr to see what to do. He was supposed to go down to the hospital for 2 hrs of IV's today for hydration, but we know that is not enough. She said that he is 144 lbs... that's about 40 lbs that he has lost since the end of March. He is nothing but skin and bones.

Well, I just talked to her and they are going to admit him to LVHCC to give him IV fluids, meds, and I assume nutrition. My dad has always been a strong guy and a fighter and it is so hard to see and hear about him being like this.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. We need him to get through this.

It's so hard to see our fathers get weak. I know how you feel. Reading it made me feel like you were talking about my dad. He went through the same thing with his cancer.

I know my dad was prescribed stuff to drink for nutrition but he just couldn't keep anything down. It's hard when thier bodies are going through so much. I hope the hospital admission gets him the rest, fluids and nutrition he needs to keep fighting this cancer.

Hi Lisa, like you and Jo I watched my dad go thru stomach cancer over 25 years ago and fight the same battles yours is fighting right now. You and he and everyone in your family are in my thoughts and prayers. The combination of both chemo and radiation can be very difficult to tolerate. My mom gets her second mega-chemo treatment on Wednesday and I feel so bad for her because she's finally starting to feel better from the last one that she had 3 weeks ago for her lung cancer.

Its not easy, is it...but we'll help each other through it - one day at a time. Many good thoughts and prayers coming your way. Take care - Kathy

Lisa - he is a strong man so he'll battle through - maybe on will alone!! LVHCC is the best place that he can be! AND he is closer to you. I went through cancer treatments with my MOm last year and almost had to carry her out to the car one night to take her to the ER because she couldn't keep anything down. They'll pump him full of fluids and calories and he'll feel better.

I'll be there Tue and Wed 7p-7a so if you need anything, let me know. They have put a lot of big stipulations on employees in regards to hippa laws and stuff....but if you need something give me a call.
