good morning everyone
i was wondering if anyone has had the problem i am having currently. i am almost 3 weeks out and i have not lost that much weight. i went to doctor about week and half ago and i have only lost 6 lbs. is this normal? i have been walking everyday and following the diet he put me on. thanks for listening. am i expecting too much?
This is very normal and if you don't believe me, look back at some posts last week from other newbies who are about the same amount of time out as you and going through exactly the same thing. You're perfectly normal and trust me, you will begin to lose.
Right now your body is going through all kinds of adjustments to its new 'self' - you may still be retaining fluid and are still swollen from the surgery. And now your body thinks you're starving to death so its determined to hold on to everything it can - but once it realizes you are giving it nourishment it will start to settle down and the pounds are going to fall off.
So yes, you're very normal and you're going to be just fine. Best advice right now would be to stay away from the scale and let your body adjust to everything - the scale will drive you crazy.

Abby, you're fine/normal. We all go through this. You can't drink too much water. You need to drink it to flush your body out. Don't get on the scale more than once a week, I know, easier said that done and I just started following my own advice. It will happen. The pounds will drop off all of a sudden and then you will be flying high!
I don't remember exactly how much weight I lost the first few weeks. But I do remember thinking it wasn't enough. My surgeon reminded me that .....
1. the body is still healing
2. the body is in shock and will hold on to some of those pounds till it adjusts and lets go
3. there is alot of bloating and water weight invovled
4. give it time.......it will come off and you won't recognize yourself....soon enough.
I think it's perfect normal to feel this way and go through this. But as I would tell anyone else, if your concerns are strong enough, call the doc office.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
Hi Abby - I had my lap rny on the same day as you. I decided that I was not going to be a slave to the scale. Before surgery, I hid the scale in the closet. I haven't gotten it out since. My two-week check up was my first weigh-in since surgery and I don't plan on being weighed again until my 6 week check-up.
I'm strictly going by the way my clothes fit. My pants are all looser in the butt and the legs. I was able to wear a bra yesterday that was previously tight and that I was spilling out of. I'm also able to move all of my bras in one hook. That to me is progress.
I refuse to be a slave to the scale and I'm finding that I'm really ok with it. We'll see how I do. I have three + weeks until my six week check-up, so I may cave, but hopefully not.
You'll get there !!
