Countdown
3 days till my surgery!
Today is my last day of eating food I can chew for a while. I've followed Dr. P's pre-surgery diet to a "T" and feel good about that.
Today is my last work day till August 3.
Odd emotion today - like I am saying goodbye to old friends when I think of foods that I may not eat again....making me realize how over attached to food I am. It gives me a little sad feeling, to think I have been that dependent on foods that aren't good for me...that I have used those foods to not be good to my own body.
I"m not nervous about the surgery, but really hope that I don't have nasty side effects afterwards.

Liz, once I am on the other side, I'd love to come to your cooking classes. You're about 2 hours from me (I'm in Lancaster County).
For now, I went thru the Barix Bible, marked recipes that looked interesting, and shopped for all my liquid diet "goodies."
BTW, where do you get sugar free Hershey's syrup? I have checked Weis and Giant without luck.

It's been a while since I've gotten it - I think that I got it at Wegmans, Shoprite or Giant.
I come down to Lancaster to see my surgeon once a year - luckily it is a super easy trip!
I post all of the cooking class recipes on here too for those that are further away. We'd love to have you though!

Lynn,
Good luck!!! I felt the same way before surgery, but then I realized I can still have a lot of foods after surgery. A lot of recipes have been tweaked so we can have them, which I'm really excited about. I'm finding that feeling better and being healthy is so much better than having the junk food that I loved. You'll do great!!!!
You're in great hands with Dr P and the Barix staff!!!!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery - you aren't going to miss those foods as much as you think you will, because your tastes are going so much after surgery that you'll be amazed at what you don't want to eat. Eventually eating will be sort of normal again and by that time you won't realize there are things you haven't touched in ages. I can't eat sugar due to dumping but there are tons of sugar free things out there to satisfy any sweet-tooth, and fatty and fried foods are going to disgust you, and possibly make you sick, so you probably won't miss those, either.
There are so many wonderful things that you are going to experience as you begin to lose weight, become more active and mobile and feel better about yourself that food will become secondary and something you need more than want.
Side effects will probably happen - but they're few and far between and only last a short while for most of us (dumping, foamies...blech) but its all part of the process and will help you learn what your new body can and cannot tolerate - sadly the hard way but trust me it'll keep you from reaching for those foods again!! LOL!!
Sounds like you're well prepared and you're in fabulous hands with Dr P and Barix. Keep us posted on how you're doing and best of luck to you!!

This is an awesome forum and we were all where you are right now - ready, but of course experiencing some fears and reservations. But Barix is an awesome facility and you will be in the best care possible. I doubt my journey would have been as successful or wonderful without the support, encouragement and friendship from the people on these boards.
