bruises??
Ok, I have a question for all/any of you.
I am noticing that I am bruising very easily lately.
I read on WebMd that it could be just because of the weight loss. The skin becomes less flexible and thinner because there is less fat under the skin. The cushioning effect of the skin decreases as the fat under the skin decreases. These changes, along with skin damage from exposure to the sun, cause blood vessels to break easily. When blood vessels break, bruising occurs.
OR
It also says something about exercise, but I don't know if my workouts are vigorous enough for it to cause this: Bruises can occur in some people who exercise rigorously, such as athletes and weight lifters. These bruises result from microscopic tears in blood vessels under the skin.\
I was going to call the surgeon tomorrow to ask, but thought I come to the combined knowledge of all of you. Could it be one of these things above? Or could there be a vitamin deficiency? Someone had told me that my iron might be too low, or that my protein/carb ratio might be off kilter. I look like someone kicked my arse up and down my arms and legs and I really don't want people getting the wrong idea. I am NOT getting beat up!

I've heard about the first thing - thinner skin/less fat. I am so pale I show brusies very easily always. But it is worse after sugery. I just had labs drawn thursday morning - CBC and ferratin so we'll see if it is low iron or something else.
Can't hurt to call the surgeon though! I think (from the menu posts and what you talk about eating) that your food is OK.
Glad that you aren't getting beat up :)
I've heard of the whole weight loss thing too.
As far as lab values are concerned...you would want to check your Hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelets, iron, ferratin, TIBC (total iron binding capacity), PT, INR to double check for anemia/iron deficiency, bleeding times etc.
Good luck!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Thanks all.. just got off the phone with the surgeon's office and Patty told me to make sure I am getting my protein in and my iron. She also told me that I should be taking 2 iron pills a day since I still get my period. Thanks for telling me that when I called you from Walmart to see what mg I should buy. LOL! SO, I am going to start taking 1 iron in the morning and 1 in the evening with my cholesterol med and see if that helps. I also have my period now, so that might be contributing to it. I don't get it heavy, but I still have it, so who knows.
Guess I'll see what happens. She said that if it doesn't improve with the increase in iron, that I can go get my blood work done early and come in early to see what's up.
