Medic Alert Bracelet

I am a little over two weeks out from surgery. In the hospital, I was told that a medic alert bracelet would be a good investment and I agree. The problem is, I don't have a whole lot of money to spend and I have no idea what to have engraved.

So basically, my question is if you have one, where did you get it and what do you have engraved on yours?

I just ordered mine (i know - i'm a little late getting it) from medicalert.com.  $9.95 including engraving for the stainless steel (i ended up getting both the necklace and the bracelet... there are times that I might want one or the other).  They have a variety of styles and colors in the stainless available for that price.

you call them and they get all of your doctor info and med history, then recommend what should be engraved.  They also get all of your contact phone numbers (sig. other, kids, whoever)... if you're in an emergency, it has the info they need immediately, then the ER calls them for the rest of the details.

I was very impressed with their knowledge and service.   They're a non-profit foundation promoting medical records awareness, btw.

Hope this helps!

You did not have to become a member to buy their bracelets?

I went to their site yesterday and it looked like I had to register to become a member for $40. Did you need to do that? I was trying to avoid it, but knowing that the ER knows to call them, it makes me lean more towards paying the extra anyway.

Mine says RNY gastric bypass, NO blind NG Tube, NO NSAIDS

I was told by a good friend and her hubby (both former paramedics) just put the basics - they don't have time to read a novel!

Hope it helps

Hey that's what mine says, too!! I wonder how that happened. LOL!!!

Yes, just the basics and don't get anything too cute.  You want to make sure the paramedics know it's a med alert bracelet and not just jewelry

I also used Medicalert.com for my bracelet. I did have to join as a member but it is worth every penny.  They keep all your medical records and the phone number on the back of the bracelet is for the Dr to call and verify all meds etc.  My bracelt says:  Diabetes, Hypertension, Gastric Bypas, Use endodscopy for N/G tube.
