Thank you all for such a nice welcome. And thank you for all your encouraging words! I am very nervous but also so excited to get this underway. I started the whole process back in December 08'. My insurance required me to do the full 6 months of Dr. supervised weightloss classes.  I will be doing my post-op shopping this weekend. Any suggestions on what I should have in the pantry at all times? I did get  a list of things from the docs office, but was wondering if there was anything you all would suggest??

Greek yogurt was a lifesaver for me, especially in the early post-op days.  It gives a great protein boost to just about anything (sweet OR savory) without adding fat.  Makes things nice and creamy - add it to soup/broth, later add SF pureed fruit to it, use it to top pureed chili (a bit later, when you're on pureed foods)... Taste and texture are a lot like sour cream.

In the very early days, my protein shakes were also a staple - I keep frozen NO SUGAR ADDED strawberries, mixed berries, peaches, cherries, etc. as well as fresh bananas at all times... toss them in the protein shake with some ice cubes and it makes a wonderful creamy treat - much nicer than just protein and milk !   And Carnation SF instant breakfast works well, too...  Hershey's SF choc syrup (add a Tbsp to a protein shake for a choc boost)... King's cupboard SF hot choc mix makes a really tasty warm drink (with our without extra protein powder)

Loved italian wedding soup (pureed it really well, then put it through the strainer in the early days)... MUCH more taste than just plain old chicken broth.  Same with french onion soup (to which the greek yogurt makes a tasty addition)...

Hope this gives you some ideas!

ALSO  - check out www.bariatriceating.com  ... one of the sections on there is recipe ideas for each of the recovery stages (full liquids, pureed, soft foods, etc.)

Good luck!

Hi and welcome.  I did not catch your original post and apologize for being remiss in your welcome.  I assume you will be having RHY, or at least, I will share the liquids that got me through the first three weeks.

For the first week, I was on clear liquids, and lived on broth, decaf sugar free iced tea, Kool-aid made with Splenda, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles and for protein, I like Isopure Grape Frost.  It has 40 grams of protein, and tastes like Grape Kool-aid.

My second two weeks were full liquids.  So, in addition to the above list, I also ate sugar free pudding, sugar free fudge pops, Dannon Lite and Fit yogurt, berries to mix in the blender with AnyWhey protein powder, skim milk and the yogurt, Carnation Instant Breakfast, sugar free.

Good luck.  When is your surgery date?

Trish

Thanks for the advice Trish. All these hints are helpful. I plan on taking a trip to Walmart tomorrow to shop for lots of these things. I'm gonna see if I can get some of the vitamins I need from there too. My surgery date is Tuesday, July 7th!!! A couple days away.

Happy 4th!
