Hi All - was anyone's tongue numb after surgery?  I had surgery on Tuesday, and part of the tip of my tongue has been numb ever since.  It seems to be getting a little better, but still numb.  It's hard to try and get stuff down when you can't taste it.  Who knows, maybe its a good thing.

When I was at Barix, the girl who had surgery right before me said that she had the same thing.

Any thoughts?

Lisa

hmmm, strange was not my experience. I know I just felt like I was in the twilght zone for a week to 10 days after surgery so I guess anything is possible. I do remember having a very bizzare sense of taste that I didn't enjoy very much.

I'd ask Dr. P and see what she has to say, my guess is it's some residual effect of anesthesia.

Hi Lisa,

No numbness, but my mouth always has a weird taste now ( I thought it was the artificial sweeteners).  I am so sick of sweet!!!!!!!!

Take a chicken base soup...strain out the chicken, veggies, and pasta and just drink the broth.  It has more flavor than regular canned broth and helps offset the sweet issue.  You can do the same w/ beef based broths

I'm gonna bet it is a combination of anesthesia and possibly the intubation.  The intubation tube could have been pressing on a nerve of your tongue for awhile, causing some damage and/or the numbness feeling.  Along with the anesthesia, of course, which can just reak havok on your system.

I hope it starts to come around soon!
