Free Skin Removal?

Today while I was getting my eyebrows (should say bushes) waxed I was talking to a gentleman that was in the process of losing weight.  He told me that burn units will do skin removal surgery for free if you donate the skin to the burn unit.  Has anyone ever heard of this?

Gene and I looked into it, we were told that the skin is so damaged from being stretched from the excess weight and that it's too thin, that burn units can't use our skin.

Maybe this guy knows something other than what we found out. Will be interesting to see other replies.

I had heard years ago that West Penn Hospital offered discounts on plastic surgery if you donated the excess skin to their burn unit.  Not sure if they still do or not but might be worth checking into

Sounds like one of those "urban legends".... When it is brought up in support it's always the same answer...The skin is stretched too thin to do any good.  That's what I heard.

I know of someone who did that about 10 years ago. Some hospital in the midwest but I don't have details and I never see him anymore. But he lost over 350 lbs and had his skin removed for free. Sorry I don't have details but it was true at one time

I've heard of this "rumor" before and had a friend who did EXTENSIVE research on it....and did not find anyone who was willing to take the skin.  Even if she paid for the surgery like "normal".  She wanted to donate it regardless of who did the surgery for how much.  But it was the same answers...they don't accept that "type" of skin from WLS patients.....

 It is a rumor
I was told the same thing from a Doctor he said the quality of our skin is not good  from WLS patients't  they can't use it for burn unit patients. it is probably cheaper   for burn units to get cadavor skin  then if they paid for WLS patients to have plastics
