Rate my smoothie......
Hi all - decided to get in the kitchen and throw together a protein smoothie. Further outs....would you let me know if you think this was a good combination please and thanks.
1 c. Dannon Light & Fit Vanilla Yogurt (5 grams protein)
1 c. Fresh Cantaloupe
1 pack vanilla protein powder (24 grams)
Blended til smooth with 4 ice cubes
2- 8 oz. servings
The yogurt and the fresh fruit was listed as ok to eat on full liquids in my Barix Bible. So far, it's sitting ok with me and the cantaloupe is nicely masking the yucky smell from the protein powder.

Lisa,
Yep - sounds like a good choice (if you like cantaloupe, which i personally don't). You can also use frozen fruit (no sugar added) like strawberries, peaches, blueberries, whatever... that makes the shake even thicker and creamier!
And you might also want to look at the greek yogurts (plain) like Oikos and Fage. They are even higher in protein, are fat free, and have a wonderful taste and consistency.
Finally, if your protein powder has a "yucky smell" find another protein powder! There are a bunch on the market and they are all very different in their tastes and smells. I like the Matrix (choc and vanilla both) and Syntrax (cherry and orange creme) brands because they don't have an aftertaste or smell to me. The Any Whey, on the other hand, did have an aftertaste.
I've been told (but haven't checked it out yet) that GNC will let you return/exchange protein powder if you don't like it. That might be a good way to try different ones until you find one that's acceptable to you.
Good luck!
Karen

That sounds really yummy. I have trouble with Yogurts because of Lactose intolerance but have found if mixed with other things, I can tolerate it. I may have to try this. Sounds very refreshing. I may even add some honey dew with it and see how that works out.
Thanks.
Thanks.
When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
Sounds darn tasty! Experiment with different fruits and yogurts. If you use a greek yogurt (fage has 17g protein in 7oz and is fat free) with the fruit you could do without the protein powder even.
I like
fage
cherries
a little milk
a little splenda.
This early out I would probably strain it in case there are any fruit bits leftover. But I agree with Karen the frozen fruits make it more like a milkshake (which satisfies my cravings!) If you add a bit of milk too that ups the protein. I was never fond of protein powder so I try and get it in with foods and yogurt and milk are a great way to do it!
Keep on experimenting!

I recently started adding Jello Banana Cream S/F Pie & Pudding Mix to my shakes. I use a 1/2 Tbsp. I get the taste of the Banana with only 3 carbs, and I use unsweetened Soy Milk to cut down on the carbs also. If you buy greek yogurt, make sure it is not flavored or you will be taking in too much sugar. You can always add your own flavoring.
