Sadness over the celebrity deaths....

Hi All - since I'm home recovering from surgery, I'm watching TV and reading the news a lot.

I'm so saddened to hear about the celebrity deaths....All people that were icons while I was growing up.
Ed McMahon
Farrah Fawcett
and Michael Jackson

I'm particularly saddened over the passing of Michael Jackson.  I've found myself a bit weepy seeing some of the footage.  There was a beautiful tribute to him on Good Morning America this morning.  I grew up with him and his music and I really feel like we have lost a music icon.  50 is too young to go.

I know he had some crazy things that happened later in life and I suppose that if there is anything to answer for, he'll do so when he meets his maker.

It's just sad that they have all left us.

I agree. It really is sad and tragically Ed McMahon & Farrah Fawcett's death were kind of expected with all their health problems in the past BUT Michael Jackson's death was sudden and unexpected to say the least. Say what you will about the man he was a true humanitarian with all his charitable contributions. Michael truly was a misunderstood and at time eccentric celebrity but I feel for his 3 young children. Don'****ch too much TV as you are recovering go out and walk if you have to. Can't get too emotionally vested in that as you are so newly out of the surgery. Take Care of yourself emotionally and physically first.  Hope everything is working out well for you.

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

Really? MJ was a humanitarian?

I will get flamed for this, I suppose.

I don't wish death on anyone, but I refuse to be sad for someone's death when they did such things as he did.

Just because he did "those" things later in life, doesn't excuse it. And for some reason, I feel like I am the only one who thinks this way, because he's being worshiped and talked about like he was a saint. I guess maybe I am just cold hearted and jaded.

Michael Jackson was indicted for four counts of molesting a minor, four counts of intoxicating a minor, one count of abduction, and one count of conspiring to hold the boy and his family captive. Sorry if I am not heart broken.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I suppose we can be buddies in cold hearted ***** then...

They were doing a poll on one of the radio stations here this morning - will he be remembered as the 80's pop icon or the 90's child molester etc. I was never really into his music  (even being a child of the 80's) but I remember all the bad things all too well! I think that he had some major issues (medical and psycological). Not happy he is dead - it was a shock but I won't be remembering him as a saint...

As for Farrah and Ed McMahon I was sorry to hear about their deaths.

Well, I have to say that I don't think he was a saint by any means... more that he was a tormented person who never had a chance at a normal life, after being pimped out by his family starting at age 5.  His plastic surgery obsession and eccentricities later in his life were obvious reflections that he never felt comfortable in his own skin (something I can definitely relate to).  I've always felt sorry for him and I hope that he now has found the peace he obviously never had in his life.

And we need to remember that although he was indicted, he did stand trial and was found not guilty on all counts.

As to him being a humanitarian, yes, he was.  He singlehandedly organized the "We are the world" campaign, raising a ton of money for ethiopian famine victims at a time when the world did not otherwise step up to the plate to help them.  He donated a lot of his personal money to other causes at various points in his life, and personally hosted many events for very sick children.  Those deeds need to be weighed in the balance of his life.

I may not be a christian, but i do believe that forgiveness and charity toward others is a virtue; it's rare that we find an individual whose life doesn't contain both the light and the dark, including our own lives.  Judge not, and all that...

Just saying I am not all bummed out and overly sad. It happened.

And although he wasn't found guilty, neither was OJ, Kobe Bryant, and a million other gazillionaires who have more money than they know what to do with and get away with breaking the law.

Yes he was troubled. But damage yourself if you have to. Don't bring others into your demented world....children for that matter.

Call me judgmental if you want. I don't know one person who hasn't judged....especially when allegations, and accusations about children are involved.

Like I said, I knew I would get flamed for my opinion. But that is fine. I stand my ground. MJ is a pedophile and I will not mourn his death like the rest of the world seems to be doing.

I don't think you're alone. I remember seeing polls when these "episodes and trials were happening. The polls were 50/50. He was never convicted, BUT not many of us would settle a suit for 23 million bux if we were innocent.

I was never in his camp, nor did I like his music. I'm more R&R ........... a Born To Run kinda guy.
But I was always amazed by the guy's talent. He was pretty amazing to watch.

Where I struggle is whether or not the incidents were really his fault. Even at 50 he still talked and acted like a kid. I hear about abuse, working or practicing from age 4 on ......... and then leaving the family while on top of the world. Ya know, the other brothers and sisters didn't exactly live perfect lives.
He was bigger than big, and the "yes men" just wanted a piece of the gravy train. A child ......... or child like mind, is not going to think they are wrong or seek counseling.  Think about all of the STRANGE stuff he did.  No .... not saying it's OK, and I'm also not saying it justifies what I think happened.  I just think he need help, and it never happened.

I have  noting but pity for him.  He was victimized all of his life. And I never completely believed he was a pedophile just a very disturbed man. He WAS obsessed with boys, but I always felt in some way it's because he was looking for his own childhood. I hope he finds some peace and I pray for his children.
