It depends on so many factors.  Each program is different, completely.

Have you gotten insurance approval yet?  That alone generally takes anywhere from 3mos - 6mos plus....plus any testing you might need (stress test, EKG, sleep study, psych appointment) etc.  In my program I met my surgeon BEFORE anything was done...she was my "first stop" if you will.  I met her Jan 30 and had surgery Oct 30.  Granted...there were some "pot holes" in the way that were unique to me that I needed to get through (an undiagnosed thyroid problem etc)

Good luck!

Good morning Pam,

I have a question that maybe you can answer.

I had my first weigh in a couple of weeks ago.  For my next weigh in, do you know if I have to show a weight loss for insurance purposes?

Thanks.

I'm not Pam obviously - but you shouldn't have to show a weight loss. I didn't. They just don't want to see you gain - and that is more the surgeon. If you have insurance approval your weight won't be submitted to them again - you're good to go. If this is part of a 6 month DR supervised diet just do the best you can - the reason that we are all having this surgery is because we can't do this on our own - they just want to see dedication to a lifestyle change.

That being said every program is different and I would say call the Dr office and ask them.

Thanks Liz,

I am trying hard, right now though my scale is up about 2 pounds from my last weigh in and I have been freaking out a bit.  Feels like September will never get here.

I do have another question, hopefully this isn't offensive to anyone.  I saw a message on the board from someone who just had surgery and they said the pain from the gas was terrible.

How terrible is terrible?  Like pain killer terrible?  Or tolerable?  I dont have the highest of pain thresholds.  How long does the worst of the gas pain usually last after surgery?

Thanks Liz..

140 pounds, you must be so proud fo yourself!!

The pain is more uncomfortable - maybe like a pulled muscle. The more you walk and sip your fluids the better off you are with the pain. If it is that uncomfortable in the hospital they can give you a suppository that helps (some people swear by it - I didn't have to have it) after my gallbladder removal I had horrible gas pains in my left shoulder - heat, massage and moving help the most!! This surgery is nothing! You will be uncomfortable for a few days - I only took my pain meds twice and that was at night and to help me sleep more then anything. The gas usually only lasts a few days post-op and again the more you are up and moving the more quickly it passes!

No questions are offensive about surgery here! Ask anything.

Sept will be here before you know it!

Liz

PS - I do feel great being down 140 pounds!

I had my initial meeting with my surgeon in June 2007 and didn't have my surgery until Feb 2008 - between insurance requirements and tests the doctor ordered it took that long to get everything lined up. So it depends on what type of insurance you have, etc.
