I don't drink it - the carbonation makes me scream for death!  But, that is just me... not sure about others.

Unfortunately just keep yourself busy. There will be cravings.

I had my surgery 1/30/07 a few days before Christmas 2008 I had 1 sip of my husbands beer prior to a party, I wished that I was dead! The carbonation hurt SO BAD I thought that my pouchie was going to explode - I almost cancelled the party. Now at 2 1/2 years out I can drink soda, I'll have a diet 7up once in a while if my stomach is upset and I feel like burping will help.

MY surgeon reccomended waiting at least 6 months but advised that if you can avoid it you should.

Try another sweet drink - maybe some diluted juice (not sure how far out you are - jus****ch the sugars, some people dump off fruit juices)

I waited a year plus... right now the bubbles help my tummy with being pregnant...

THe best thing is to find some fun flavors to add to your water... that was the best thing for me... I love South Beach Living Strawberry Banana mix... 5g of fiber, 3 g of protein... also Hawaiian Punch red one... both of these are sugar free... oh yeah cool aid has sugar free stuff for water bottles as well...

I have diet coke now and then and waited until I was 6 months out. It doesn't really bother me, but I only take little sips and could never drink a whole can or glass.

I'd give it a few more months and then take a sip and see. However if you can live without since it's just no good for you (or me) even if you didn't have RNY.

No lie...I would drink a 2 liter bottle of diet pepsi MAX every single day.  60 ounces of which were generally consumed during my 8 hour work shift from 11p-7a.  Talk about wanting it, especially early out!  2 weeks before surgery I cut out all caffeine (switched to caffeine free diet pepsi at work) and then obviously after surgery had none.

I'm 17 mos out...have had some on rare occassions...maybe a total of 10 ounces every month.....

Unfortunately there's no good "sub" for this one....just something you need to get through.  And don't try it for at LEAST 6 mos....you are healing through that time frame...don't want to push against stitches or have fizzy nasty stuff on open wounds (inside)

Early out, soda can be killer. I do drink Diet coke. I am an addict. I find I can tolerate fountain soda from Mc D's. For some reason, thier soda is always "flat". If I drink it at home, I open a bottle of 2 liter, and let it get kinda flat. High carbonation makes me gassy and uncomfortable.

I forgot to look and see how far out you are. I am almost 5 years out so alot of things I couldn't do early out, I can tolerate now. Everything takes time and experimentation. I know someone who STILL cannot tolerate anything carbonated at all, and she is several years out. Everyone is different.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
