I'v been sick for 2 weeks now. horrible abdominal cramping (low) and frequent (urgent) trips to the potty. I figured it might just be the flip side of recovering from my surgery 3 weeks ago, but now I'm getting nervous since it hasn't gone away.

So I took myself to my PC today (who was beside himself at the sight of me since he hasn't seen me since pre-op RNY) and he's worried I've contrated something like C-diff or salmonella or a variety of other bacterial goodies. I was sent home with a "poop kit" and will be delivering my goods to Quest in the morning.

The other possibilty could be IBS, which I never had pre-op. I know I've read that some people develop these symptoms as a post op complication but I've gone 10 months with perfect plumbing....wah. Has anyone goen from no issues to developing something like this?

When I was about 9 months out, I developed severe abdominal pain in my pouch area, and Dr. Marymor ran a gamut of tests and referred me to a gastro-doc who discovered an ulcer.  Your symptoms sound lower, and could be any number of things.  Could any of it be food related, like fatty foods, or other such high fiber, gaseous type things that could be making you miserable?  Just speculating.

In any event, I hope you feel better soon.

Hugs,
Trish

So....being the gross nurse that I am...what color is the poop?  Does it smell worse than normal poop?

I'm no doctor....nor did I sleep in a holiday inn express last night...but it doesn't sound quite like IBS to me (yet) as IBS is normally intermittent diarrhea and then it switches to constipation...and back and forth and back and forth.  And it also normally comes with bloating and the like.  Of course...I could be totaly wrong here.

Chron's is another possibility...but with no history before...I'm not sure about that....

Anyway...good luck with the poop kit and I hope you feel better!  Cdiff due to the recent hospitalization is a real possibility.....yuck.....
