OMG..why does my back hurt so much!!!
I have been doing good so far but today....WOW...I am in so much pain my back area...like in the middle of my back and on my sides hurt so bad everytime I move and walk or sit. I have been taking my pain meds every 4 hours on the dot. It helps for a good half hour then it comes back. I am most postive it is this god darn horrible gas pains traveling but I wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem and how long does it last? I walk, walk and walk and sometimes the pain gets worse when I walk. I just want to double over and when I do..I feel better. Weird I think. I just cannot sit still today in a chair or my recliner..I have to lay down to feel better...how am I suppose to get my walking in if I am in pain when I walk? I did fine at Barix no problem walking around but now...its painful!
Yeah, it's actually the gas that they pump into your abdominal cavity (not the gas pumped into your stomach itself) working its way through your tissues and out. Gravity (it's lighter than everything in your body) drives it upward, which is why it hurts worse standing up than laying down. Unfortunately, standing up, walking, and moving as much as possible is the only way to work it out. Mine tended to stay in the top of my left shoulder, which REALLY hurt and ached a lot. But it was about a week and a half and it was gone one day.
BUT, if you're at all uncomfortable about what you're feeling... CALL Dr. Pupkova. She's really wonderful about getting back to you (if you don't get her directly on her cell) and being very sensible and cautious about followup. She'll tell you if there's anything you need to look out for or be concerned with.
Hang in there, keep sipping, and keep moving! It will get better before you even know it!

Denise, I feel your pain. Literally! Mine is around my ribs on my left side though. And like you, I feel so much better when I'm laying down. I try to keep walking even when it gets worse, but it's difficult. Dr P called me tonight, and she said to keep stretching and walking. I hope you feel better soon!!!
Hang in there Denise. I found that my back hurt also from the way I was using it to get up and out of my bed and chair, not to mention not being able to sleep comfortably for a long time.
Keep moving, as much as it sucks to do so, when you are able.

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

The heating pad was my friend for a long time as well as the water bottle. I would lay on the pad and put the ho****er bottle on my lower belly. It seemed to help move the gas along more to warm my belly up down there! Good luck! It will go away!

Denise,
The day of surgery I felt great. I felt like I could conquer the world. Day by day, however, I felt worse and worse to the point that I was getting scared. I even stayed in the hospital an extra day because I was in so much pain. Then it started to turn around and I started feeling less pain day by day. I wish someone had told me that. You're only 6 days out and your body suffered a major trauma, the anesthesia is working out of your body, your feeling is coming back. Just keep on doing what you're doing.
