Hey everyone,

Thought I'd try to start a fun thread....  What motivates YOU?  Is it a song?  Is it a video?  Is it pictures of your family?

Go ahead and share and, if you can, post the image, link or story here.  Please share what motivates YOU with us and, who knows, your motivator may become someone else's as well!

GD_007 MOTIVATOR:
NIKE COMMERCIAL - I am *not* a runner (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0XhQlvNx-c)

This commercial, albeit meant to be funny, actually motivates ME.  Every time I want to slow down or quit my workout or when I'm tempted by those extra carbs I don't need - I think of this commercial, smile, and keep on moving/successing!!

Hope you enjoy.

GD,
It's not so much a song or a commercial for me but my Kid's who constantly motivate me to stay healthy. Like crossing my legs (Indian Style) on the floor and rolling around for hours with them weather it's playing board games or jus****ching TV. I was never able to cross my legs all the way. That AMAZES me all the time and when the urge not to excercise hits me my daughter will say to me mommy you didn't do your excercise today?? Do you need me to walk with you?? She is only 5 and I love it. I have only missed one workout since my surgery sine January of 2008. I literally went to the malls and walked the length of them since day one then got on my Elliptical that my husband had bought me prior to surgery to lose 30lbs to qualify for WLS. I can totally say that my Ellitical took care of losing the last 60lbs and then some since now I am below my ideal goal weight. (Size 2!! & Bragging) LOL.. Hope that inspires some people:) Sorry its so long...

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

The music on my MP3 player motivates me to keep going on my recumbant bike when I want to stop.

The owner of Curves keeps me motivated by her encouragement and support (and knowing that if I miss more than one week of going she's going to call and hound me!!).

My little dog motivates me to get up and go walking or play with him when I think I'd rather sit on my butt.

My closetful of new clothing motivates me to not want to put the weight back on now that I'm finally wearing 'fun and fashionable' clothing.

My new bicycle motivates me because I never thought I'd be able to ride a bicycle again, and yet I'm out there most nights cruising my neighborhood.

These boards motivate me and give me inspiration through the most difficult of times and remind me of why I had WLS in the first place.

And most of all my overall health and general well-being motivates me to keep exercising, watching what I put in my mouth, and taking my vitamins and getting my proteins in. I have not felt this good in over 30 years and I never want to go back to feeling like that huge blob of a person I had become.

What motivates me, the number one motivation is the fear of ever being the person I was a little over 20 months ago! Then the energy I have on most days and my ability to really enjoy living keeps me motivated to stay on track and all the people I've come to know on this journey are a part of what motivates me too, when I'm slacking on my exercise or veering into dangerous food zones, I remember the different stories of people who have shared their journey's with us and then there is my attendance at support groups where the enthusiasm of those new and old to this journey also provides motivation. . .

Thanks for being motivational today!

Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

OMG - that commercial was hysterical!  What motivates me is:

My doc and his phenomenal staff.  Being told I have "calves of rock" doesn't hurt either.

Wearing smaller and smaller clothes.  Losing inches even if the scale stays the same.

My family - I have motivated them and in return that motivates me.

My running circle of friends.  We all go different speeds but it doesn't matter because we are all waiting at the finish line cheering even the last friend across.

When I beat my time during races or miles run... shaving off minutes or seconds is a great motivator.

Signing up for 5Ks, 10Ks, 10 milers or Goofy's half marathon... I always think I am crazy but I do it anyway.

I could go on... but I will stop.  This is a GREAT post by the way.

I needed this today Greg so thank you ....I have been having a rough few days on the emotional side so food was an easy source to turn too but so far reading the replies made me eat my protein bar instead of walking to Wawa for a bag of M&M's...SO this board motivates me.

My love for myself first and foremost motivates because I know I never want to go back to the girl that was always the fattest in the room or wearing the size 26/28 jeans.

The love of my family and friends that have supported me this whole journey and that is the new friends as well as my long term friends.

The fact that I have two 5k's under my belt in the last 6 months even though I walked them I did them and finished them and didn't feel like I wanted to die at the end or need oxygen.

Being a support group leader gives me motivation because I always reminded that I am paying it forward to those that walk before me and after me.

The love I have found with Dennis because of the whole journey keeps me motivate to be the best I can be every day.

I will keep on succssing even on the days I just want to drive through Mc Donald's because I am worth more then a enumber 2 value meal!

for me when I could workout the better the beat the more I felt like I could do more in a workout... Here are some of my faves... a good beat can get me through a workout I don't wanna do... it also gets me moving when I don't want to move...

4 Strings (any of the songs

Will Smith- Switch

Hairspray ST

TMBG-They Might Be Giants

Stray Cats- Rock this Town

Shakira- La Tortua & Hips Don't Lie

September- Freaking Out & Satellites & Cry for You

That is just a few... I have a ton... but they might be something different for you... Hehehe... of course you can't go wrong with Black Eye Peas and such....

My other motivator is to be hotter than those girls that made my life hell in high school... I was a size 10 but since I wasn't a 0... I didn't matter to them... well they are all now starting to pack on the weight (man I love facebook) and in a few years I will be smoking lol...

This is a great thread and has had me thinking today about it before replying.

I've reached a point where I'm actually seeing some significant differences and results in terms of strength, stamina, and energy.  Having seen these results, which are very different than what I've achieved in the past through onerous diet-alone attempts, I'm starting to realize the potential of this second chance at "normal life."   Reminding myself of that, and of the prices I've paid for this in so many ways, is a big motivating factor.  The prices I've paid range from the monetary cost of the surgery to the opportunity cost of things I have not been able to do or been too embarassed to do because of my weight... and the cost of things that my FAMILY avoided doing because I couldn't do it with them.  And the health cost (short and long term) of carrying around that much weight is a real cost, as well.

Now that my body is changing, the WAY that it's changing is also motivating me - fitting into smaller sizes, not having to shop at specialty shops, those things are all positive reinforcement.

And as a couple of other people have said, in terms of my workouts... The EA Active 30-day challenge was a really good motivator for me - I knew I wouldn't get the "points" or the trophy if I didn't work out every day, and it was well structured, interesting, and built on itself so I didn't want to lose the momentum.  And when I go do my walk/run, I've made a kick-butt playlist (138 bpm and up) of my favorite songs and artists that I just blast on my iPod and totally get into.  It keeps me moving and not paying attention to the little aches and pains and whatever along the way.

GREAT post idea, GD

What keeps me motivated?  At first I didn't quite know the answer to that.  But now I have a few.

1.  To be able to go into any store EXCEPT lane bryant and find something that fits
2.  Not feeling like a cripple after a 12 hour busy shift on my feet
3.  My music helps to keep me moving during exercise times when I don't want to.
4.  The boards here - keep me soooo accountable
5.  And the friends I have met through these boards....the ones who will be honest with me when needed, a shoulder to cry on be it related to WLS or not, the compliments, and the whole hearted down to goodness love we share between each other.

There's probably more...but those are definatley my top 4!
