Who are the 'Mean Girls' and can they ....
I am one of the Mean Girls....There is a handful of us and we are not "mean" it all came about as we have a support group. Last summer we were visiting Lesley at Barix after her surgery we all were laughing and carrying on in her room at Barix. We were saying something and Lesley said we are a bunch of MEAN GIRLS....
The name stuck it was used just among us but over time it seems the name has gone public and all that the title means to us as a group is that we took a pact among us to keep each other on track with weight loss surgery. We have permission to call each other out on sh** if we fall off track. Say one of us should gain weight, start eating wrong or develop bad habits (cross addictions)we talk to each other about it or even kick each others a** and it is our version of tough love...That is all it means to US....
We have our own support group meetings and we have a topic and we explore it to the point that we get down to raw emotions with each other, We share personal details we may only share with our close trusted friends and our therapist some nights. We need to know we have that trust amoung all of us it is a give and take group we have we need to know that you are giving not just taking. We have also since included our partners in on topics after we have discussed them to get their prospective on things. It has proven interesting and in the last 3 months our bonds have gotten very close because we have been through some pretty rough personal times and then in the same breathe we have shared some pretty happy good times like Tammy's recent marriage to her beloved Johnathan.
Then besides support group we do dinners or game nights together include our partners and other friends both in and out of the WLS surgery community.
That is all we are we are not MEAN GIRLS like the girls in the movie...We are not some private clique of woman we are just bond together by Weight Loss Surgery and feel blessed to have each other.
Oh yea there is the $1000 yealry membership fee paid in cash to me to join though....

I am one, like Beth said we aren't mean to anyone , it just means that we can be mean to each other if we fall off track. I'm also a mean girl, in fact I'm the one who coined the name. Oops! :-) We probably should have picked a less misleading name, but one day I just said it as a joke and it somehow stuck. As Beth and Susan said, we're mean when it's needed (tough love, some may call it) but I know I can count on these ladies for a hug or a cheer when I need it too. This message board is great for virtual online support, and the mean girls are my real life support!
