I am wondering what laxative you all use

It seems that lately my body doesn't like the idea of "going". I have had one BM in about 16 days and that was cause I took Senakot, but it didn't "clean me out" so to speak. Just relieved part of the problem. I started two days ago with three Senakot, but they are outdated. Then last night I took Milk of Magnesia. Those are the two my doctor's handout recommends. I was just wondering if there is something with a little more "bang" that might blast through the "back up". Thanks for any ideas. I really apreciate you all. Belinda

Belinda,
I use the Colace and it does the trick. I spoke to my doctor and she said that was fine for occasional use. I also eat foods rich in fiber but I am also a year and a half out but I hope this helps! Good Luck:)

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

I was just at the GI last week and he told me to take Colace (I use the Target brand)100mg 3 times a day.  Let's just say the first 2 days, I took it 2 times a day and saw a dramatic difference!  I will increase it to 3 a day, if there seems to be a "back-up" but for right now 2 a day is working!

Good Luck!

Colace is a stool softner not a laxative but that was what was recommended to me too. Mirilax is a mild laxative or you might want to try a Fleets Enema at this point.

Barix recommended to me... For near impactions, Ducolax supps. should blow it out in an hour or so then once the initial blockage is passed, Peri-Colace 2 am/pm, backing it off to 1 am/pm and then 1 per day until you have set up regularity.   It's the "Peri" that stimulates the going, the colace just makes it softer and easier to pass.  They also recommended a great fiber drink called Fibre-Stat that I've only since found on the internet.

Prune juice works for me every time.  If I'm not blocked, I eat a couple prunes when I feel like I'm having trouble.  Also, lemon aid does that for me too (its the lemons).

Peri colace is a life saver!!

Now I eat 1 prune a day (I was told that pregnancy can constipate you badly) and so far so good!! I found some prunes that have no sugar added.

This too shall "pass"

Oh and make sure you are getting your fluids in - that will help too!

I had terrible problems with constipation after surgery, and had to give myself an enema more times than I'd like to think about!  When it gets really bad, you have to "work from the bottom", unfortunately, and the suppositories didn't help me.  Now, I put two tablespoons of Benefiber in my morning protein shake, and everything is fine.  I didn't like Colace -- it made me feel worse.  Benefiber is my new BFF!

First try something extremely hot followed by something extremely cold, example is Hot tea and a s/f popsicle

If nothing happens try Decaf coffee with sugar free hot choc prepared together

If that doesn't work try Miralax

Miralax worked for me but stopped working after a few weeks

I then went onto Peri-Colace and Fiber-Stat, however Peri-Colace has been recalled from the shelves and so was Senna S, I was able to find online DocQLax which has the same ingredients as Peri-Colace and Senna S.  Fiber-Stat is available at Barix.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.
