Isis - it all depends on your situation - you can see a bypass surgeon and see what they say - I think that most of them would do either surgery on you. But know that this isn't the "easy fix" this is a life long commitment to eating right, weighing/measuring food, vitamins, blood work and yearly follups. Feel free to ask any questions - I'm an open book!

Depending on your height (therefore your BMI) you might qualify for either surgery - generalized rule of thumb is about 50 -75 pounds to loose lapband would be appropriate 100+ pounds bypass is your best option.

My advce is do to LOTS of research!

Best of luck

Liz

The question is, are you old enough and tired of being overweight to make the permanent commitment to yourself to eat right?  This surgery is for people who have hit rock bottom and are ready to commit to a life long journey of good choices.  It is not an easy way out nor is it pre-destined to work no matter what you put in your mouth.  Every choice you make forever will determine your success.  Are you willing to make that commitment at 19 years old?

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

Not sure if you are in college... but I know myself in college wouldn't of been able to handle it with all the all nighters and not having access most of the time to a full stocked kitchen... and then having to time surgery and healing time between semesters would be kind of hard too since everyone I knew had to work during the summer to go back to school in the fall hehehe... and if your dining commons was anything like mine... I would want till after college lol... because their food was always fatty... even the healthy stuff lol...

I would talk to your doctor and your parents... look at family history and your own family history... really take your time to look to see what is right for you... but post any questions you have... and welcome to the PA boards... btw- I remember being that weight at that age... it isn't easy... so hang in there!
