Reflux?

Anyone had this issue?  I had the first time on Friday when I ate ravioli...I ended up throwing up then later threw up watermelon.  I then went on softs for a day and felt better.  Today I ate like I should and did my drinking, walked tonight and watched TV and went to bed. 2am I woke up gasping and gagging, like I was going to vomit, but it was reflux.  I had it for a bit then decided to take a Pepcid.  Why would this happen now?  I thought if you had this bad (which I did not) before surgery it went away, but now I have it??

(BTW, I AM allowed more than purree and liquids per my Dr oders)

I still get heartburn on occasion - it isn't totally impossible!! Keep track of what you are eating and journal the days you get it. If I drink too much decaf coffee or tea it is worse. My surgeon had me on daily pepcid for the first 6 months to allow the pouch to heal.

I would call your surgeon and let them know.

Hope you feel better

Hi!   I had terrible reflux prior to getting the RNY (one of my major motivators to get the surgery).
After surgery my hosp. routinely keep patients on meds for reflux for 6 months.   I have noticed remarkable improvement in my reflux, however I have had several nights where I wake up with bad reflux.    I think it was due to eating something spicier or heavier than usual....
Either way, I'd talk to your MD, as Liz suggested.   Maybe they can put you on Pepcid or prevacid or something for a few months.

Okay I am late in chiming in but did you ravioli have any sauce on it especially the tomato. I am almost a year and a half out and cannot tolerate some of the pasta sauces. The same thing with watermelon. Unless you are eating slowing and swallowing in small bites you will be throwing all that up. I think you had a mini dumping episode from what you have described here.
