How do YOU fight head hunger?

I'm two years out, at goal, but find myself eating a bit too much of stuff because I suffer from Head Hunger.  I'm never physically hungry, but when I start eating, and the food tastes good, sometimes I ignore my full signal (a belch) and continue eating until I feel stuffed.  Last night I had the wherewithal to throw food away before I could take another bite, but most of the times I have not been doing that.

So, I'm asking you all -- how do you fight head hunger?

I am 16 months post-op and at goal. Sometimes I take a walk sometimes I tell my husband to remind me if I am grazing that are you really hungry again? Usually that stops me in track. Sometimes I have even taken up knitting(really BAD at it) just to keep my hands busy. I agree with you though I find myself doing the same thing. It's a constant battle. Hell sometimes I even have to jump on my Elliptical just so I can remind myself how hard I have to work to burn off all those calories. Hang in there it's a constant battle. Hope it get's better for you soon. Oh BTW I also live on the scale not necessarily a good thing but keeps me in check.

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

I weigh myself every morning.  I haven't gained any weight.  In fact, I still lose a couple pounds a month!  But the guilt is killing me -- not to mention feeling so full sometimes.  I can try pushing myself away from the table and walking.  That sounds helpful.

My "full" indicator is a sneeze. I know it's wierd but I start sneezing when I am full. Always have since surgery.

Since you know your "full" indicator..........MAKE yourself stop when it happens. No matter how much you want one more bite or howmuch you have to throw out or save for later.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

At home I don't have to much of a problem with eating something until I'm to full.  However, at restaurants after I have eaten my protein I find myself picking at the fries or whatever else is on my plate even if I'm full.  Once I realize I am doing that, I now take a glass of water or ice or whatever and pour it over the "bad foods" that I shouldn't be grazing on.  (Thanks Shauna!)

On the rare times I notice myself eating to much at home, I simply throw it out.  End of story.

Now...what I need to work on is my grazing at work.  That is just outta control.

Jason gave me good advice a few weeks ago about alcohol. He said you should not decide how much you will drink after you are already drinking, You should decide how much you will drink when you are sober.  Planning and measuring is a way to do that with food.

Also the constant struggle to slow down, enjoy it, and find out what is bothering you

I find that if i Just put what I "should" eat on my plate I am good - if I eat with the "family style" platter in front of me I tend to over eat. I also find that as soon as I get to my full point I get up and throw out or wrap up the rest of the food and sit back down at the table.

Hope this helps!
