Why am I losing so little weight
I have a CUP of decaff (8 oz) wait 15 minutes and drink a protein shake for breakfast (8oz skim milk/29 gm protein) One hour later I start drinking protein water or plain water. I stop 15 minutes before snack. To day I had 2 oz of non fat greek yogurt with 2 oz mashed banana. Then I wait 1 hour and start drinking water. For lunch maybe 2 oz of pureed chicken and 2 oz of pureed carrots. Then do the same: wait an hour start drinking. Around 4 I'll have another protein shake, water in between. Dinner will be maybe 4 oz tomato soup or some kind of pureed soup or 4 oz potato and pureed veg. Then wait an hour and start drinking again
What am I doing wrong? Am I just being impatient? Will this change?
If you GAINED three pounds in a week...you'd probably be going "how the hell did I gain 3 pounds in one freaking week"
Also...you are a "light weight", very similar to myself, with a little over 100 pounds to lose. It's hard to not go by the NUMBER of pounds you are losing, rather, the PERCENTAGE of weight you are losing. The "gold standard" for weight loss is approximately 75% of EXCESS body weight in one year. So for you - that is approximately 80 pounds or so if my math is correct. 80 pounds divided by 12 mos = 6 pounds a MONTH which = 1.6 pounds a WEEK So, right now...you are more than TWICE where you should be.
Will the loss increase? Probably. It depends on how hard you work your tool. Your menu looks good for two weeks out....I know there's limited options on pureed and stuff and many surgeons suggest things like potato and what not...I personally do not only because I tend to rely heavily on protein and cut carbs out where and when I can. Early out (and still now) my body needs an additional ounce of chicken, not baked potato (note: this does NOT mean I don't eat potatoes...because on occassion I do. I even had a piece of toast for my snack today)
Other tips...make sure you are getting in your 64 ounces of fluid...make sure you are exercising.
And also keep in mind (and this is the cruelest trick of nature ever...) the BEST time for a stall is between 2 and 6 weeks out. So don't be surprised if in the next week or so you stop losing weight completely for a time period.
Hang in there...keep working the tool....you didn't gain 100 pounds in 2 weeks and you won't lose it in that time frame either. It's sooooo frustrating....but worth every minute of every worry!

You are only 2 weeks out - everyone is different and everyone looses weight differently. You may be slow to start and then hit goal at 6 months. How much weight do you have to loose? that also plays a HUGE factor. Also have you taken your measurements - if you haven't do it today. When you aren't loosing weight you will be loosing inches - that will help you get through stalls.
How often are you weighing yourself? Hopefully only once a week - if it is more break the habit now! This will be devastating to you later because there will be times when monday you'll be one weight - tuesday you'll be up a few pounds and thursday you are back down again.
Hope that all this helps! Just follow the plan and the weight will come off!!
Oh and are you taking your vitamins????
Liz
I also notice that in your dinner plans you're looking at eating tomato soup - I don't know if you've eaten this yet in your journey but if not be careful - tomato soups can have a lot of sugar which can cause dumping - I had it once and was fine but had it another time and dumped big time. So watch out for that one.
You're not doing anything wrong other than weighing yourself way too much...now go HIDE your scale!
PS: 3 pounds a week is a very significant weight loss, even for RNY patients - how much weight did you think you'd shed in one week? 10 or 20 lbs? Not going to happen, honey - sorry to break that news to your. But then when was the last time you actually lost 3 lbs a week and kept it off? In one month that's 12 lbs - and some weeks you'll lose more - other weeks not as much. The key is to keep your diet and vitamins and fluids steady - start exercising when you can and the weight is going to come off.
You're not the first person who has gone thru this - many others have posted the same thread because they're feeling like you do. Me? Not so much, only because I HATED seeing my weight on the scale so I didn't weigh myself at home until after my 6 month appt at Barix. But I think I'm in the minority on that one...
Water and liquids I average about 50, can't do 64 yet.
I am walking 15 minutes in the am and 10 minutes in the pm now at a normal pace but this is all I can do right now. I plan on stepping it up.
I backed off the protein a bit cause I found it very hard to eat 4 hours later even having 2 oz of chicken puree. I AM taking my vitamins religiously.
I guess I look at it as I could have lost 6 lbs in two weeks on a diet. I know I can't compare myself to those who have much more weight to lose, but gosh, I'm so disappointed. I guess as long as I am doing everything right, I just have to sit tight!
Just think if you were on a "regular" diet, you would really have trouble keeping up with eating the right things, not overeating, etc, and would eventuatlly "give up" as we have all done so many times. If you keep losing an average of 3 lbs per week, think of how much that is over time!!!!! Hang in there :)
Also, the 1st 2 weeks I was on liquid only and had a HARD time eating every 3 hrs- was just so overly full feeling. But by week 3 that uncomfortable feeling went away (and still not hungry!)
:)
You are only two weeks out - your body thinks you're starving right now and is holding onto as much as possible until it realizes that no, you aren't really starving - its okay to burn what you're taking in because its going to be fed again in a couple of hours.
What you're going through is completely normal - that was major surgery you went through - you really need to relax and give yourself and your body time to adjust to all the changes its going through. And it will, and then the weight will begin to fall off but again, you are going to have highs and lows thru-out this journey.
I did not measure myself before or after surgery (and I regret it now) but I know a lot of people out here who did and are thrilled that they did, because even if you go thru a period where you aren't losing pounds you are most likely losing inches because your body is catching up with itself. So if you haven't taken your measurements take them now so you have something to compare to when the frustration of not losing pound****s.
OK - I really am shutting up now!
