Hi All,
I started this journey in Sept. 07, got all my requirements done, the last was the cardio stuff.  In Feb 08 had the stress test and echocardiogram.  I got a call two days later that they had found something and I needed heart cath.  I went and had it done, they showed me the two blockages, and sugery was scheduled for the next am.  (my daughter told them if they let me go I might never come back)  I guess the first attempt saved my life for which I was greatful.  I figured that was the end of WLS for me.  When I went to see my cardio Dr in April, he ended the visit saying "You were going for bypass sugery, I said yes,I just got a different kind."  He said he did not think to much of WLS in the beginning, but as he has read other reports and research, he now thinks it is a good thing.(one more on our side)  I know this is not what you came to hear today, but it is something you should think about.  I was really upset when I left, I forgot all about another appointment I had and when home in a haze.  I wasn't going to be able to do the DS I had planned on before, as my mind was having a hard time letting me think about this again at all after the heart sugery and all I had gone through with it.  My daughter once again came to my rescue and suggested the Band, and asked me not to consider any of the malasorbation sugery types.  I called my Drs office and found I would only have to repeat the tests, and not have to go to another phyc eval, or an exercise eval.  I have had all the necessary tests completed again, and have my appointment scheduled with Dr Bonanni for June 11th.  Now all I have to do is get my self intune with a different type sugery, and learn all over again.  Sorry for the long post, this has been a hard decision for me,but I am commited to it and hope to keep my old friends on here as well as make new.
Thanks Ena

Sounds like you've been through a lot, Ena, but thankfully they found the heart problem before doing your surgery - those tests are a good thing, aren't they.

The Band is a wonderful tool so if you feel that's the better option for you then go for it. I'm sure since you were prepared before you'll do just fine with it now.

Wish you all the best - keep us posted on your progress.

Kathy

Go kiss and hug that daughter of yours.     She's obviously got your best interests in her heart.  So, so many people don't have support from their families for this journey but it sounds like you've got a cheerleader on your hands.   Good for you.

Ena,

Yes - the test saved your life.  And it was just another step showing you WHY you were pursuing this.  Band...bypass...VSG...they are all tools.  Tools that work in different ways, but tools none the less.  And I have no doubt you will be able to learn all about your new adventure and be able to start successing!

Congrats!

Pam

Thanks for all the replys.  It is so good to have a place to come to for information and support, and to support others on their journey.
Hugs Ena
