Protein Question
I posted this at lightweights but would like other opinions too:
I called my nutritionist today to ask her if I could skip a shake because I had 4 oz of pureed chicken today. She seemed shocked that I was able to get in 4 oz of pureed chicken. Is that unusual? She seemed so shocked now I'm wondering if I'm eating too much. I did not vomit, I feel full but not stuffed, I ate it slowly (30 minutes) with a baby spoon and tolerated it well. Am I ok?

You're just 1 1/2 weeks out, right?
Well, each surgeon is different...but I wasn't even allowed pureed for 3 weeks out (one week clears, 2 weeks full liquids, then pureed)
As far as how much you are able to eat...when I did start pureed foods I think I was told 2-4 ounces. However...the earlier out you are the less you will be able to tell how much enough is enough. The nerves are cut and you can't tell full hungry etc. You can, however, tell sick when you totally over do it.
I'm not sure, in all honesty, if 4 ounces is a lot...and only because I wasn't allowed that stuff for awhile.
Ask your surgeon and/or nut what amounts they reccommend and start with that. See how you feel after lets say, 2 ounces if that's what they say to start with. Also, make sure you are starting to recognize the difference between head hunger and anything else. You may "want" more just cause it tastes good....but might not need more.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Hello,
I don't remember from Hershey being able to eat that, that fast. You may be rushing the solid foods even thought they are pureed, just be really carefull. I know you miss food but the day wilol come when youcan eat like the rest of us again. It feels like forever, but I promise in 2 months you will loff back and you will be amazed. what about mashed potatoes with some protein int hem...start out lighter so you don't get sick

Yep, according to THE BOOK, you can have pureed meats from day 8 through week 5. But I find that I still not ready to eat again 4 hours later so I think I will back off and do an oz or 2 for lunch and dinner. I'm n ot so much anxious to eat again as much as anxious to heal and protein makes you do that.
