Gastric Bypass on Rachael Ray

So...anyone watch Rachael this morning?  On it was a woman who lost 155 pounds after surgery (you ROCK!!)  On her pre interview thing she did mention that "this surgery is not what everyone thinks it is.  It's not an easy fix.  I work out, have run two half marathons, eat right, and try to lead by example"   (You ROCK even more!)

The whole point of her being on the show, though, was that this woman was still wearing 2x clothes.  As her husband jokingly said (he was with her well before bypass and went through the whole process with her) said "she dresses like a troll"  She was literally LOST in her clothes.  So they gave her a make over in clothes that fit her.  Now, of course, she looked stunning.

During all of this they talked about how she still sees the 300+ pound woman in the mirror and I was so glad to see some honest stuff about the surgery.  Granted, I would have liked more than a sentence or two on how she works her tool - but I realize that was not the point of the segment.  It was the whole brain catching up to your body.  She is 3 years out...

Fantastic story - Rachael made one comment which to me said "You just don't get it" (about Rachael) as she said "We're going to give your brain a reboot today"  Well...yea...temporarily...but guess what, Rach...that brain reboot probably won't help when she looks in the mirror every day.  That's going to take a lot more time!

So, thanks to RR for putting this woman on.  gives us ALL a better name!

Maybe it'll be on again later and I can Tivo it - would like to see it. Can't say RR is one of my favs - something about her is just 'too sweet' - but its nice that she had this woman on, and I'm glad the woman made the point of saying it takes a lot of hard work because I know lately I've met a few people at Curves and when they find out I've lost my weight thru WLS I get the 'Ah Hah' look and comment. I choose to ignore it or I just blurt out how hard I've worked and am still working - some people are just dunderheads.

i have my tv set to catch it at 2pm here.. i love RR!!

i been dealing with alot of ppl thinking i took the easy way out lately as well... its been getting to me.. for some reason my husband feels the need to tell complete strangers... "oh my wife had that bypass an has lost "X" amouts of weight.." UGH! i know hes just being his usually talkitive self.. but sometimes i wish he would find a new subject to make conversations with.. because he doesnt have to deal with the looks an judgements after he walks away or outside to smoke an so on..  he says he is proud of me thats why he tells ppl but sometimes i dont know i think he just wants to tell everyone "my dirty lil secret" like im flawed so they wont want anything to do with me type of thing... maybe im becoming paranoid...??  like if someone says... wow  Peggy u look great.. what have u been up too? he steps in an says oh she had bypass.. etc.. anyone else have this issue with family or spouse? sorry for rambling.....

Because of the lack of knowledge of the general population I too at times feel very uncomfortable with the whole "I had gastric bypass" statement because people stop listening at that point.  I do say it...but I generally start it with "well it started with deciding to have gastric bypass and has continued with me working my ass off"

My husband being in the medical field also knows the ignorance of people and the "stigma" attatched to the surgery so he is pretty careful and goes "along" with the whole story of I exercise eat right etc etc and makes that the highlight of the conversation be it WLS is mentioned or not.

It's a very difficult road as if we have to "prove" ourselves to others...but sadly thanks to media and ignorance, it is where we are.  And I continue to want to "prove" it to the world each and every day!

OMG!! My immediate family knows I had the WLS but most of my aunts and uncles do not. I have to say say what you will about my hubby but he does not tell complete strangers or even my family without consulting with me first. Do you think he is maybe getting a little jealous with all the attention you are getting. Sit him down dear and mention to him that you are not comfortable with him announcing to the whole world that you had the surgery. I did the with my husband before I had the surgery and he totally respects my wishes. Good Luck my dear nobody said this was going to be a walk in the park.

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

I should add to my statement that my extended family does not know about the surgery.  I'm more than willing to educate complete strangers...but didn't want to battle with the ignorance in my own circle.  Contraindicatory?  Maybe.

I tell everyone I mee I had surgery. All my family knows everyone from the small town I lived in knows. I am proud of what I did.  If someone has an issue with it oh well that's on them..I did this for me. The first time I put myself first. I tried every other option and I am proud I did it.

This is the 2nd time they have aired this show... after the first one I sent them an email telling them some of the things said by others were just stupid lol... they called me and asked more questions... it was like they were digging for more info for a future show on other ways to lose weight... like DS, Lap-band, gastric bypass etc... and success stories... I even told them about this website etc...

So, I am hoping that this fall there will be a new ep. about these topics... because WW and SB just don't work for everyone...
