Hi everyone, I just needed to vent some. It seems like every time I start to feel a little better, than wham the feeling of fullness and nausea and pain hits me again full force. Those things have never gone away just lessened, and now yesterday and today again I have been struggling to get in anything at all, and have spent alot of my time in bed. I am just really frustrated and begining to wonder if I am mental and it is all in my head. or maybe I am just doomed to be one of those people that ends up miserable after having this surgery. I hate to say it but I am starting to think maybe I should never have done this in the first place. Well I guess there is no sense crying over spilled mild so to speak. What is done is done I just wish I could get back to feeling good and being myself again. I am really hating this feeling like crap every three or four days. Sorry to be such a downer, but I know that you all will understand better than anyone else what I am feeling. Thanks for listening. Belinda

I am certainly not a doctor so I would recommend sharing this info with him/her.  But if it makes you feel any better, I had constant nausea for the first six months following my surgery and since then... nothing.  I am three years post op and I never have any problems... hang in there.

Belinda - so sorry to hear that you are still going through this!!

Just a couple questions:
1) how much and what are you eating at a time?
2) how long after are you drinking?
3) are you on pepcid or something similar??
4) how long does it take you to eat a meal?

I am with the PP - I was quite nauseous and sick for quite a while after surgery, about 6 months. Then BAM woke up and better!

I am sure that you are playing by the books as to not aggrevate the pouchie but do you think that you could be eating too much and/or too fast? I feel a lot like you are describing when I do that - even now over 2 years out - infact it happened last night REALLY bad.

Hope things get better for good SOON!

Liz

Hey thanks for your replies. I am barely tolerating about 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup at a time, and that is about three times a day. I may still be eating to fast but I am still only eating full liquids and thin soft foods like mashed potatoes with cheese and gravy. The liquids are still few and far between but I am staying hydrated enough that I don't think I need IV fluids. Not peeing alot but my mouth isn't too dry. Anyhow the last doctor appointment May 23 he told me that my body just may take awhile longer to adjust. I just worry that something might not be right. I keep trying though. A little of this or a little of that. I hope like you guys I wake up one morning and the pouchie feels better and I can get closer to what I am supposed to be taking in. I did drink a little of a protein shake the last two nights which is good news. That is the first time that I could tolerate them. Good old chocolate peanut butter. Yum. but I could only get in about 1/4 cup, still better than nothing. thanks ya'll Belinda

PS     yes I am on the carafate slurry and I take two prilosec a day plus reglan one to three times a day depending on what I need.

I don't remember what I ate as far as amounts early out but 1/4-1/3 cup sounds about right!! Try eating rediculously slow - like a small (even go as far as to get a baby spoon) bite once a minute. It seems painful but it will tell you if it is eating too fast or pouchie being prissy. The more protein you can get in the quicker this will heal up - same with fluids. Pam reccomends using a medicine cup, I think she said to drink one every 5 minutes and at the end of the day you have 64 ounces!

*hugs* hang in there!

Almost right on LIz....one every 15 minutes marked at 30ml for 16 hours out of the day and you have 64 ounces

What a tough time you're having!  Everyone is different and so the body rebounds the way it needs too.  It totally sux that yours is rebounding this way.  But your body is doing what it needs to and is probably just taking a bit longer to get itself back.  It was good to see that folks who had similar issues (6 mos. of nausea/etc) then got better and haven't had any issues.  I would focus on seeing yourself healthy, happy and nausea free.  And of course stay in close communication with your doc so they can help you "battle plan" for working through this.  Hang in there.  Prayers your way.....

regards, keri

You are not mental. My husband has gone through the same thing since 2006. Next month he'll be having an Endoscope (I think that's what it's called) to see what is going on in his pouch. He's been having a terrible time lately with getting fluids and food in, in addition to the heart burn and pain associated after he's eaten.

I asked him last night if he is sorry he had the WLS, his reply to me was h*ll NO...it was the best decision he's ever made. He's no longer on diabetes, cholestrol, high blood pressure, or gout medications. He's healthier than he was when he was in his 20's & 30's. He's wearing smaller pants now than he did in 10th grade.

We will keep you in our prayers. Keep after your doctor they will figure out what's going on....
