Somebody Stop me...

from eating everything in site. I just found out that our company is making massive job cuts and they have plans to eliminate about 76 people! Anyway I sit in a place (in a huge call center) where i can see almost the entire floor plan. Do you know how depressing it is when you see HR and other supervisor's packing up people's desks. What is upsetting is that they have a few supervisors and people who have been with the company for almost four years let go. I am worried since I have only been here since December 08. You know what they say last one in the door is the first one out the door. This is a 3 day process and today is day 2.I already went thru this in December cannot go thru it again. Just not emotionally strong I guess.  I know I cannot let stress get to me but I am getting so upset by all the commotion here....

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

Start putting your resume out to all the temporary places to hold you over till you find something else if the situation arises.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

Good luck Shilpa!! Hate to say it (and I don't know if it qualifies) but sometimes they get rid of people from the top rung and bring on new people in a lower pay bracket to save costs.

HOpe that you survive this round of layoffs!

I've gone throught he same numerous times now.  Take control of things just in case...like get your resume updated, get is out to similar companies/jobs and any other temp work you might know of.

And, who knows, you might just find a better a job with a new company AND be one of the folks the current employer keeps!   So, you'l have the ultimate power -- the power to choose!

Hugs, Shilpa - Everything will be okay - somehow! Its so easy to ease the stress by sticking stuff in our mouths (been there, done that) but try not to do something you'll regret tomorrow - grab a sf mint or hard candy or a piece of fruit or something - I know carbs are calling to you but you know you'll just feel lousy for it.

Hang in there...we're all out here to help you thru this.

Shilpa,

I've been through it, too, and it's NOT fun.  But eating from stress will only derail you and increase your stress, and it won't change anything.

When you're starting to feel stressed, take a quick walk outside, get up and go somewhere and stretch... get MOVING to release some endorphins and release some of the stress.  Food will only numb you and ultimately derail you and make you MORE depressed.  If the act of eating truly is the only thing that will calm you down, find yourself some good noisy carrots and celery and chomp on them!

Keep good boundaries for yourself.  Make sure that you know your own worth.  You can and should SYMpathize with others, of course!... just don't EMpathize too much.  You can't afford to take their own pain onto yourself (as I said before, don't pick up other people's baggage from the baggage carousel!) if you're not feeling strong at this point.

Hang in there, whichever way the result goes.  Rely on your SUPPORT group for support and backup.  Call someone if you feel a binge coming on or if you just need a shoulder to cry on or someone to shout to.  Go ahead and feel your emotions - the anger, fear, or whatever comes up.  Acknowledge them, then get past them - they don't own you, you control them.

We'll be pulling for you!

Hugs to you, Shilpa!!!!!

I am a stress eater, and can nibble on anything when the heat is on.  Find other ways to relax and not worry.  Deep breathing exercises, take a walk, make some phone calls, journal, whatever you must do to deal with the stress.

Also, whatever your faith system is, now is the time to implement it.  I pray and read the Bible.  That helps me immensely.

Hugs,
Trish

Shipla,

I don't post that much, some may say I lurk, but I really think its a shyness thing.  Anyway, I am in your area (I live in Levittown, Snowball Gate) and am usually off on Monday's and Tuesday's.  I can meet you someone and walk with you on lunch or something like that.   Work off some stress.  I work for a large company that has had RIFs (reduction in Force) about twice a year for the past 6 or 7 years.  We dread April and October because that's usually the time when these occur.  It seems like now that it has been going on for so many years, really good people are let go.  Maybe in 2002 or 2003 it was the low performers but now only really good people/workers are left, yet some are let go and you really just hold your breath during that time and pray your not in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Unfortunately its a sign of the times in business but don't let that be an reason to ruin all your great work at meeting your weight goals.  Let me know if you want to meet sometime and walk off your stress.

Lisa,
Thank You so much for the kind words. I would love to meet up sometime. I work in Horsham but live in Twin Oaks Area. I will PM you my information. This is Day 3 but I was told by power that be that our jobs are not in jeopardy so that is good news, sort of. Anyway I really appreciate you support and I did manage to reign myself back from eating everything in sight. Took me some time but I did what everybody told me got out of the building and walked and talked with some friends on my lunch. Again don't be a stranger and post here often. That's why I love the computers they are so anonymous. lol..

Food will not prevent you from being laid off.

Food will not help you get another job.

Food will not make you feel better cause you'll just get pissed at yourself for eating it.

You are stronger than the crap of food.

That's what I tell myself, anyway.  Does it always work?  No.  Does it sometimes help just a little bit?  Yes.  Do I still want to eat?  Absolutely.  But ya know what....it doesn't solve anything.

I used to tell my brother "Your problems are not answered at the bottom of a heroin bag"  And guess what?  My problems are not answered at the bottom of a potato chip bag.

The economy sucks plain and simple and it's sooooo stressful right about now.  I feel for ya.  Somehow someway things will work out!
