if it isn't one thing it's another...
my day is not going well. I was supposed to get the call as to what time my surgery is on Monday today. well they called to tell me the anesthesiologist wants to postpone my surgery. he wants a stress test done even though the surgeon didn't think it was necessary. the first available stress test is June 15th. so preadmin at the hospital, my surgeons office, and the heart institute are trying to get around the anesthesiologist. of course they said the chances of this are slim. well now I find out that I'm too fat basically for the type test the anesthesiologist wants. even if I could get in tomorrow now the test I would need is a 2 day test. the heart institute is trying first to get around the anesthesiologist, but if that doesn't work they're trying to squeeze me in tomorrow and Monday, but my surgery would have to be pushed back so they're trying to get the surgeon to do the surgery asap after the test so basically trying to keep it sometime next week. confused yet? I've been dealing with this for a half hour and my head is spinning.
I know it's not at all what you wanted to hear. But I am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason.
My surgery was cancelled 2 weeks prior to surgery because they found a thyroid problem I was previously unaware of. I was absolutely devestated. However....if they hadn't found it...chances are my thyroid would have totally shut down after surgery due to the stress and I would have had one hell of a time healing from the surgery. Not to mention thyroid problems are a ***** in and of itself to deal with in normal every day activities.
Anyway, I digress (as usual). Point being....even though your surgeon doesn't feel it's necessary...perhaps it's a good idea to get a stress test. Sure there might be other types of anesthesia they could use....but if there are any unforseen problems due to obesity related heart issues...you don't want the doctors to find out on the table and put yourself at further risk.
Here's hoping for the best outcome out of all the options!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

No, not one of your better days, but Pam is right - there's a reason for everything and I'm surprised the surgeon didn't require one (or insurance).
I had to have a cardiac evaluation (similar to a stress test I think) - I was too heavy for their treadmill and too big for their dye table, so they ended up doing an very sophisticated EKG - I'm sure there's a proper term for it but basically it was a dopler scan of my heart and surrounding muscles, etc. Thankfully that showed enough to clear me for surgery.
If you feel you're too heavy for the traditional stress test ask the surgeon (or a cardiologist) about the type of test I had - that may be sufficient for the anesthesiologist.
Best of luck to you - it will work out and your surgery will happen...just one more thing to go thru prior to that happening.

Congrats on getting everything scheduled! It will be here before you know it!
I know a week delay sounds like a lot now, but in the long run it won't be a big deal at all!
My surgery was delayed for 2 weeks (I was actually on the guerney, IV's in place, ready to be wheeled in for surgery when they decided to cancel/reschedule). At the time I was so upset, but much better to be safe than sorry. Its a serious operation and you want to have all the clearances needed to make sure you are ready :)
Best of luck and hang in there!!!
