Freaking Out
I am trying so hard to lose the 10 pounds and it's not going anywhere for me. I'm drinking nothing with bubbles, sugar or caffeine (so mostly water) 64oz a day. I'm going to the gym, I'm trying to cut out carbs and stay away from anything sugary or greasey. I don't know why I'm not losing weight, but I'm about ready to cry, I'm so frustrated. I can NOT change my surgery date due to work. My PATS are on June 4th. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Edit: Thank you everyone so much for your support and suggestions. It really calmed me down knowing that I have until my surgery not until my PATs to loose this weight. I'm still maintaining and from the comments I got, I guess that's better than nothing. I'm trying out the Slim Fast diet as it is on their packaging starting today. I'll give it a few days and if it doesn't seem to be working, I guess I'll skip the snacks they suggest and just have the shakes and protein bars.

Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.
Don't cry and don't get frustrated - my doctor put me on a 10 day liquid diet prior to surgery and I lost 17 lbs. I had protein shakes, broth strained from lo-sodium GOOD canned soups (it seems to have more substance and flavor) - lots of sugar free jello and ice pops and lots of water. Are you at a time of month where you might be retaining fluids? Plus if you're working out you're building muscle which weighs more than fat so you may actually be losing fat but not weight right now. Give it a few more days - stick to your plan - it will come off.
I had to loose 9 pounds in 6 days before my surgery, I did the slimfast diet and it worked wonders. Shakes for breakfast, lunch and snack if I needed it then protein and veggies for dinner. It is hard but so worth it!! The weight will come off! We didn't opt for surgery because it was easy for us to loose weight!

Janet,
You can do this and will do this ....I thought I was not losing the weight I also had to lose ten pounds and eneded up losing 21 by the time my surgery day came.
I put myself on a semi liquid diet and healthy meal for dinner. I would drink a slim fast protein shake for breakfast and lunch snack on fruits. I also would use protein bars for a snack then have a healthy dinner. You can also go on a full liquid diet your self . It will help you drop pounds quick.
You have to have your 10 pounds off by the day of surgery not PATS. ...You can do this!!!! I have faith in you!

I agree with the others -- you can do this!!! I had to lose 11 lbs between PATS and surgery (I had to lose 30 over all) and I did it using a modified liquid diet. I used Syntha-6 protein (GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe sell it) because it gave me a longer feeling of satiety than SlimFast did (just my own experience, your mileage may vary...) and I would have two or three of those throughout the day, followed by a sensible dinner. Lots of walking and lots of water helped too.
You can do it! We are all pulling for you!!!

Take a look at the nutrition labels for what you're eating and drinking. Especially look at the sodium content, because that can cause you to retain water like crazy!
The other thing that may be happening is that your body is "in shock" if you've cut your caloric intake TOO far. Your body is used to a rough amount of calories per day... cut that too far suddenly and your body thinks it's in a crisis starvation mode and tries to conserve by not burning fat. It WILL readjust to the lower amount, and the weight will start dropping, but it could take a while.
I would suggest keeping a food log between now and your surgery date. Write down what you eat (including quantity), and record its calories, fat, carbs and sodium... bring the log with you to PATS and the nutritionist you meet with will be able to see where there might be problems and advise you accordingly for pre-surg prep. You'll be given a lesson anyway on how to read nutrition labels as part of the PATS experience, so taking this step in the meantime will help that make even more sense.
The other thing you can do is be CALM about this process. You're doing the right things (exercise and diet modification), so trust that your body will adjust and handle it in the expected way. It may just be on a different "schedule" than you think it should be.
