depressed by trainer's comments

Ignorance comes in all forms and the reason we need support from one another is that the vast majority of people who don't have any real information are misinformed about all the work that does go into it!

Hope you are feeling better today and in time you can make here eat your words ;)

Hugs, Laureen

I am feeling better today. It still stings a little, but I'm learning from here this probably won't be the last time I deal with something like this so I'm using it as a learning experience. I'm glad I found this place because without the support of others who have been there I'd be feeling so lost and doubting so much right now.

There are ignorant people everywhere. Just because she has the title of "personal trainer"
does not make her the expert on your lfe. You can try to inform her, but alot of the time it is a lost cause. Just know that you are making an important decision in your life to become healthier.
It is not the "easy way", it will be hard work to lose the weight and keep it off.  The receptionist is
risking her health by not following doctors orders and taking her supplements/vitamins.
Keep you chin up and ignore those types of people and you will be fine.

yeah I was shocked that the receptionist stopped the supplements. she also stopped the support groups. I plan on staying on track my whole life. I'm doing this to get healthy and stopping all of that will just lead to more health problems I don't want or need.

yeah this situation is making me really rethink any ideas I had of telling people. I can count on one hand who knows and it might just stay that way.

Originlly, no one knew but my children, husband and best friend. Only last week I told my parents and my mom FLIPPED OUT! Once I told her how much I needed everyone's support, she came around and is now even cooking for my family so I don't have to. I just told my other friends and most were supportive. Those who were not, I suspect, just said they would keep me in their prayers. So, if you show your confidence, they will react differently. Those whom I don't know, I really don't care about. I suspect my neighbor just is not aware of the whole dynamics of morbid obesity or WLS. I think she just knows the bad stuff.

It's a very personal and serious decision and I don't expect people to truly understand why we can't just "go on a diet." Whatever else you do, be confident in your own decision and to he-- with everyone else.
