Is it safe to assume that your husband-to-be will be finding another trainer?

The other thing to remember is that realisticly when you do it the "right" way you only maintain about a 5% weight loss.  I would have gotten in her face(but thats me) and said have you had bypass? do you know anything about bypass? have you ever been more than 100 pounds over weight? if you answered no to any of these questions then I strongly suggest you stop trying to talk about something you know nothing about.  It's not an easy decision to make to have the surgery but like I have been told at every support group and dr's appointment it is a tool not a quick fix or the easy way.  She is an idiot!!! Go you and dont be afraid to stand up for yourself and your decision!!!  You only have you to answer to!!!

I hate people.  Just hate them.

Probably won't be able to talk any sense into people like that; but know what you are doing is anything but easy.

Blech.

And don't let ignorance ruin YOUR good day.  These people aren't worth it.
Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

I agree with Liz...I would write a letter to the Y manager. She is completely clueless and needs to be educated. When I hear this comment I step up on my soap box and I launch into my "I have worked my ass off for every pound lost" speech. This journey has most certainly NOT been easy. Anyway, I'm preaching to the choir.

Some of you know I am studying to be a personal trainer and I hope to bring our message around bariatric surgery to other trainers so they will be more aware.

Try not to let one persons ignorance bring you down.

Please don't be depressed - ignorance runs rampant sometimes and obviously this trainer has more than her fair share of it. You know you're making the right decision for you - and to quote someone else 'F Her' if she doesn't like it - its not her decision or her body and some day her age and hormones are going to catch up to her, too.

One of the reasons I have no problem telling people about my surgery is to educate them and let them know that its not a magic pill or quick fix - that we have to work the tool and we go through a helluva lot more than most people adjusting to our new bodies and lifestyles and the success rate among WLS patients who follow the rules is phenomenal. Sadly someone like her wouldn't get it anyway, but that's her loss, not yours.

Hold your head high - let depression go out the window and find another trainer who will appreciate and understand what you're going thru. When I started my journey I was 388 lbs and had to find a trainer and was very intimidated by it, but I found a good one who worked with me and understood my limitations at that weight and started me out slowly and worked with me - by doing that and following a nutritionists' guidelines I lost 33 lbs without really killing myself. So I know you can do it too.

Have a great weekend - forget you ever met this rude person and enjoy the holiday!

First of all I am slightly curious and surprised that you didn't mention what fiance's reacation and opinion to her ignorant behavior was? What did he say to her and to you about her crappy behavior? And second of all you couldn't pay me enough even if it were for free to join a place that would talk down to a member.  I would be such a ***** and on a mission to get her butt in trouble for her attitude. And second of all don't you ever let someone make you feel the way she made you feel.  You are doing this for you and no one else and furthermore you do not need anyone's approval for what you want and need to do. Not even your other half.  You come first and rest will follow.  You have to live with you so now damn it!  Go out and seize the day come on go for a walk and move it move it. She had a nerve talking this over with your fiance and I am the kind of person who would confront her on it. There is nothing easy doing this surgery and the people who haven't had it done do not know squat.  They think we lay there have the surgery and wake up skinny.  So not true.  This is tough and you will see when you do this that in the end it is so worth it.  That guy Ron did not work his tool.  This is not a cure its a tool with what you do with it is up to you.  Its like me handing you a power drill and say to you go for it do what you have to do with it. Why let a snit  like her get to you?  I personally would revolk my membership and go elsewhere. Why not go on the boards and see if anyone lives near you and can reccommend another gym more wls friendlier? Who should deal with that ugly enviorment? Not me.

He was annoyed, but is the most nonconfrontation person I know. He thought I was just letting it roll off my back, but once she said the Ron comment he knew I was mad because the whole season I had a fit about how the show was portraying the surgery. The Ron comment was towards the end of this so we just left.

The thought of leaving the gym all together has crossed my mind since yesterday. Call and tell them what happened and how uncomfortable I am now. Tell them I want a refund or at least tell them I not going to continue paying, I pay every 3 months, but it is a contract.
